Episode 1: 2nd Jan 1990

Summary: It's Boxing Day in Beckindale. Bill tries out his Christmas present to himself - a coffin. Lynn calls him sick. Joe is still mad with Kate. Jack takes him shooting and tries to calm him down by stating he's playing right into David's hands. Pete warns Bill not to mention his coffin to Kathy as she's calling round in case it reminds her of Jackie. However, the subject arises and Kathy talks about the night Jackie died with Lynn. Lynn confides in Kathy that she remembers the night as well and she knows that Pete lied about where he was and who he was with. Amos arrives back from staying with his brother Ezra. Seth practices Joe's part of Dracula for the village play. Amos leaves him annoyed when he says he can be Joe's understudy. Annie gives some advice to Kate, informing her of Joe's past relationships. Lynn is positive that Pete is having an affair but tells Kathy that she has got too much to lose by confronting him about it. Kate decides to go out for a ride. David waits for her and is pleased to discover that he's caused trouble between Joe and her. Joe discovers Kate has gone missing. Bill offers to lend Amos his coffin for the play as long as he can play Dracula; Amos refuses. Joe storms around to David's but discovers Kate isn't there. They argue and Joe attempts to grab hold of David but he pushes him to the floor and pins him down with his foot before telling him to go home. Joe later finds her at Dolly's playing with Sam. Mark and Rachel decide to name the puppy Lucy. Everyone arrives for the read through of Amos's play - Bill is the attendant, Joe is Dracula, Kate is a vampire, Rachel is a maid and David helps with props. Dolly announces she's having a fancy dress party on New Year's Eve. Joe and Kate argue again and he demands that she stop seeing David. Seth covers Joe's part when he's late arriving. David arrives to observe the read through and informs Rachel he doesn't intend to give up the fight for Kate.

Summary: There is a strained atmosphere between Joe and Kate. Sarah arrives back from her skiing holiday and refuses Jack's invite to move into the cottage with him. David arrives at the farm looking for Rachel and Mark. He is warned away from Kate by Annie. He's interested when he finds out Kate will be going to the fancy dress party. Kim asks Dolly to start as housekeeper as soon as possible and tries to persuade Dolly to live in at Home Farm. David wangles an invite to Dolly's party. Dolly informs Amos that she has a job at Home Farm and starts tomorrow; he's too soft to force her to work her notice. Mark comments to Rachel that he hopes Kate and David get back together. She isn't so keen. David intends to make Joe late to the fancy dress party by letting all the sheep out of the field. Everyone gathers at The Mill. Rachel is an Apache dancer, Mark is Bill Whiteley, Joe and Sam are cowboys, Dolly is Aphrodite, Seth is Dracula, Bill is a gorilla, Alan is an Admiral, Kate is a showgirl, Jack and Sarah are hippies, Lynn is a schoolgirl and Pete is Rambo. Chris and Zoe arrive without costumes. David and Kate fool around at the party as she forces him into a costume. Lynn comments on Rachel's perfume and realises she has smelt it before on Pete. She works out that Rachel is who he's been having an affair with and tells Kathy. Jack and Sarah leave the party early when they see Kate dancing with David. Kathy tries to comfort Lynn but she decides not to say anything to Pete. Henry and Amos sit in an empty pub and wish each other a happy new year. Joe arrives at the party in time to see Kate kiss David.

Summary: Kate arrives home on foot to face Joe, she tells him she doesn't love David. Joe wants her to stop seeing him. Alan drunkenly tries to chat Dolly up and Nick drunkenly tries to chat Zoe up; neither get anywhere but Nick wangles a lift from Chris back home. Rachel realises that David was responsible for letting the sheep out at Emmerdale. Chris and Zoe go back to Nick's for a drink. Chris is slightly disappointed when Kathy decides to go to bed rather than join them, he slips out leaving Zoe with Nick. Rachel is cool with Kate and informs her that it was David who let the sheep out. Nick asks Zoe to stay the night, but she tells him it wouldn't be right seeing as he's the new gardener at Home Farm. Kate and Joe agree to put everything behind them when she agrees to stop seeing David. She tells Joe it was David who let the sheep out. The following morning, Sarah and Jack receive a letter saying they are being taken to court for harassment. Sarah is adamant that she won't move into the cottage next to the farmhouse. Nick visits Home Farm about the gardener's job and is thrilled when Frank gives him a start date. Sarah has no luck flat hunting and eventually has to agree to move into the cottage with Jack and Robert, but she insists she will not do any farm work and wants the connecting door between the farm and cottage bricked up. Annie doesn't approve of them living in sin.

Summary: It is Nick's first day as gardener at Home Farm and he worries that Frank thinks he's more experienced that he really is. Annie isn't pleased when Lucy makes mess on the floor of the farmhouse again. Dolly also begins her first day as housekeeper at Home Farm and asks Annie if she'll take Sam to school for her. Sarah isn't impressed when Robert bounces on his bed at 6am. Frank sets Nick up with his first job - shoveling manure. Kim explains Dolly's duties to her. Kate receives a bunch of flowers from David and puts them straight in the bin. Nick continues in his attempts to impress Zoe but doesn't get anywhere. Sarah's annoyed when Annie barges into the cottage and asks her to knock in future. The farmhouse has central heating installed. Mark and his friends decide to try and trap mink in order to sell their fur. David calls to see Kate; she tells him to leave. Zoe interviews local farmers for a university project. Annie and Sarah clash when she barges into the cottage again. Sarah locks the interconnecting door. Dolly asks Nick to slip away and pick Sam up from school for her. Zoe calls at Emmerdale Farm and asks questions about chlamydia psittaci - a sheep disease that can affect pregnant women. Joe warns her that Kathy lost a baby because of the disease and refuses to tell her where she can be contacted. Kim tells Dolly she doesn't mind her bringing Sam in the house when Frank finds out Dolly sent Nick to pick him up. Zoe is upset at the local farmers response to her questions, especially Joe's. Mark and his friends set traps for the mink. Sarah moans to Jack about Annie and he agrees to have a word. Amos worries about his play when the majority of the cast drops out. Chris tries to give Kathy some advice when Amos asks her to take part in the play but she tells him to leave her alone. Lucy goes missing and gets caught in a mink trap.

Summary: Dolly asks Annie to help out with Sam while she's working. Annie agrees but rebukes her saying that she only calls when she wants something since Matt left. Rachel worries about Lucy being missing overnight. Nick becomes embarrassing in his attempts to flirt with Zoe. Joe tells Pete that he is envious of him and Lynn having a baby. Zoe asks Lynn about chlamydia psittaci and she invites her to speak to Kathy in The Woolpack. Dolly's surprised when Kim wants to enroll her on a book-keeping course for six weeks in Skipdale. Zoe meets with Kathy who agrees to talk to her. Kate goes searching for Lucy. Zoe tells Kathy that Chris fancies her and they talk about Kathy's miscarriage and Jackie's death. Kate finds Lucy caught in the snare. Amos asks Chris to take the part of Dracula in the play, but Chris isn't interested. Mark, Dan and Gary return to their snares to find one missing. The vet discovers that Lucy's leg is broken but otherwise gives her the all clear. Mark arrives home and asks Joe how to properly set a snare. Joe shows Mark what happened to Lucy and he is full of shame. Kathy agrees to be in Amos's play. Amos is forced to ask Seth to play Dracula. Frank's surprised when he discovers from Zoe that Kathy is renting a smallholding from him. Joe tells Kate he thinks Mark set the trap. Rehearsals get underway for the play. Pete drops out when he finds out he will be playing opposite Rachel. Frank discovers that Kathy owes him £200 in back rent for September from her smallholding. Joe tells Kate he wants her to be a partner in the farm.

Summary: Lucy is better but Mark is still remorseful about setting the trap and sneaks out to gather up the others. Kathy wonders why Frank wants to see her. Sarah struggles to adjust to life at Emmerdale Farm as she attempts to get used to Jack's habits. Mark admits to setting the gin trap in an attempt to catch mink. Kathy visits Home Farm to see Frank. Zoe warns Frank not to upset Kathy. Annie disapproves of Kate becoming a partner in Emmerdale Farm. Kathy takes Frank to see her land, he tells her that she owes him rent and that he may not want to renew her lease. He says he has plans for the land. Joe buys some proper mink traps in an attempt to show Mark how to use them and catch mink properly. Kathy arrives at Emmerdale Farm upset after her meeting with Frank. Joe blames Zoe for upsetting her and warns her to leave Kathy alone in future. Zoe is disillusioned about her course and tells Kim she's not going back to university. Mark, Gary and Dan set the new mink traps. Annie is frantic when she realises Sam has gone missing whilst she was looking into an airlock in the water pipes. Henry draws up the contract to make Kate a partner in the farm. Rehearsals continue for the play, but Amos is frustrated when Seth changes his lines and complains of an upset stomach and Nick struggles to remember his lines, complaining they're too complicated. Annie finds Sam out with the sheep. She's grateful when Sarah covers for her when Dolly arrives and wonders why they were outside. Kathy tells Zoe that it wasn't her that upset her but Frank. Kate becomes a partner in Emmerdale Farm Ltd.

Summary: Kathy worries about paying the rent on her land. Alan overhears her talking about Frank's plans for the land. Mark, Dan and Gary check their traps, they find a mink but don't know how to kill it. They decide to abandon the idea of catching them. Sarah nails up the interconnecting door between the farmhouse and the cottage. Frank tries to convince Zoe not to give up university. Alan enquires about his tenancy agreement. Mark tries to pass on the mink traps on to David but he storms off insulted when he discovers they were Joe's. Frank tells Alan he has great plans for the estate. Seth has food poisoning and tells Amos he won't be able to appear in the play. Pete agrees to take his role back from a struggling Nick. Lynn finds some dead bluebottles on an old costume. Nick stores them away for future use. Chris argues with Frank over his treatment of Kathy and her land. Sarah and Jack laugh as Annie tries to get through the nailed door. Amos treats Seth to a brandy in an effort to cure what he thinks is nerves but Seth persists that he has a stomach upset. Chris asks Kathy out for a meal after the play but she declines. As Lynn prepares the actors hair and make up, she makes a mess of Rachel's hair and reveals she knows about her affair with Pete. Rachel admits she's not sorry and they can't have much of a marriage if Pete was looking elsewhere. Everyone is nervous as the crowd gathers to watch the play. Seth accidentally goes on stage without his fangs. Rachel warns Pete that Lynn knows about their affair. Chris offers to lend Kathy money to pay her rent but she refuses. Eric arrives at the scene where he eats fake bluebottles, but spits them out on stage when he discovers they're real. The crowd love it but Amos is mortified. Pete confronts Lynn and apologises for his affair. Amos is upset that the audience saw the play as a comedy rather than a tragedy. Seth passes out in a coffin.

Summary: Amos is upset when he reads a review of the play in the Hotten Courier. Frank asks Zoe to accompany him to the Fish and Game farm following an invitation from Alan. Kathy asks Frank if she can pay her rent in installments, but he tells her not to bother as he is not going to renew her license. Amos vows not to contribute to the Courier again and Henry finds the paper in the waste bin. Frank and Zoe visit the fish farm. Alan tells them that Seth is off work claiming he caught a disease from the fish. He turns down Zoe's offer to take a water sample. Jack asks Kathy to pretend that Sarah's washing is hers so Annie will dry it for her. Zoe is about to throw her notes and text books out when she comes across a water born bacteria which could affect people working with fish. She waits for Alan to lock up the fish farm before sneaking into take some water samples. Nick asks Jack if he can borrow some weedkiller from the farm and treats the paths at Home Farm with Agricultural Herbicide, accidentally spraying some in the river. Pete is concerned about Rachel and tells her that Lynn wants to move away from Beckindale. Joe books a holiday in Hotten while Kate visits the doctors. Chris charms Kathy into going for a drink with him. Alan and Amos visit Seth in hospital, he makes the most of his illness. Chris asks Kathy for a date; she accepts. Joe and Kate successfully deliver a calf. He tells her that he's booked a holiday in Lanzarote and she tells him that she's pregnant.

Summary: Sarah's annoyed when she can't get dressed for work as she can't find any of her clothes. Annie is surprised that Jack is letting Joe go off on holiday at lambing time. Mark offers to help at the farm. Jack discovers that Annie has taken Sarah's washing down to Kathy's. Nick finds dead fish in the river at Home Farm. Zoe tells Alan that she thinks she knows what's wrong with Seth, but he isn't interested and patronises her. Sarah collects her washing from Kathy. Nick discovers the weed killer was responsible for dead fish. Zoe is relieved to find a sympathetic ear in Jack. Dolly arrives at work late and asks Kim for time off to find a childminder for Sam. Kim tells her to sort it out in her own time. Jack explains how slurry works to Zoe. She suspects Seth has been affected by Cryptosporidium, a bacteria affecting people and cattle. Nick is inspecting the dead fish when Frank insists he goes with him for a drink in The Woolpack, he puts the fish in his pocket. Jack is surprised to learn that Kathy has got a date. Amos tells Henry that he found a dead fish in the pub toilets. Annie warns Dolly not to neglect Sam. Rachel is happy about Kate expecting a baby; she confides in Joe about her affair with Pete and apologises for not telling him sooner. Nick worries about poisoning Frank's carp. Zoe goes to visit Seth in hospital and tells him that she knows what has caused his illness. Sarah insists on having a night out without Jack. Kathy decides that it is not right going out with Chris so soon after Jackie's death but Nick convinces her to go. Amos is still puzzled by the dead goldfish and Nick spreads a rumour about mink killing fish. Kathy looks at Jackie's photograph and decides not to go on her date; she calls to see Rachel who's babysitting Robert. They discuss Chris. Sarah arrives home early from her evening out and they all have a girls night in. Chris telephones an old girlfriend to make up for being stood up by Kathy. Jack and Sarah agree to forget their rules

Summary: Zoe receives the results back from the laboratory - they prove her right, the contamination is Cryptosporidium. Seth explains the bug to Alan and tells him that he has got a sick note for a fortnight. Sarah clears out Matt and Dolly's furniture from the cottage. Zoe calls to see Alan and tells him about the contamination; she also mentions that his fish farm could have been polluted from the slurry at Emmerdale Farm. Alan storm up to see Joe and tell him he'll be informing the National Rivers Authority. Zoe offers to test their calves. Amos calls to see Frank at Home Farm and tells him about the Koi carp found at The Woolpack. Jack asks Zoe if she has dropped out of university and tries to give her some advice and encouragement; she seems to listen to him. Nick phones Hotten Aquatics and enquires about the price of Koi Carp. Joe and Kate leave for their holiday in Lanzarote, but not before Annie finds out about the pregnancy; she is delighted. Sam is upset to see that his dad's furniture is being taken away. Nick asks Zoe to help him get the water in Frank's pond tested. Sam goes missing. Annie and Dolly are frantic but Eric turns up with him, having found him stowed away in the furniture van when it went to the market. Kathy apologises to Chris for standing him up. He brings another woman, Maxine, into The Woolpack. Frank and Zoe talk about her future; she has decided to go back to university.

Summary: Zoe informs Jack that Emmerdale Farm's slurry has caused the Cryptosporidium outbreak. Bill and Jock ask Alan if he has got any work going; he says he needs a secretary. Kim tells Alan, in confidence, that she is planning to breed horses. Amos confronts Nick about the fish found in The Woolpack. Meg bans Seth from drinking beer in the pub. Frank offers to pay Jack £50 to take his fertilizer off his hands. Alan asks Kim if he can stable Champion at Home Farm; he offers to give her regular supplies of trout as payment. Bill and Jock ask Jack for a job at Emmerdale Farm but he can't offer them anything. Annie asks Sarah to go out for tea; she reluctantly agrees. Chris asks Kathy for a dinner date again. Sarah has tea with Annie, Sam and Robert. Annie watches her closely and questions her about her relationship with Jack. Mark is upset about his mum having a baby with Joe. Kathy turns up for her date with Chris and asks him about Maxine. He tells Kathy that she is the fiancee of a friend. Alan goes to dinner at Home Farm. Amos, Mark and Rachel help Nick restore Frank's koi carp into the pond. Frank asks Alan what he thinks of turning Home Farm into a theme park. Alan's left skeptical when Frank responds he's only joking after seeing his reaction. Chris asks to see Kathy again but she isn't keen. The fish are released into the pond. Alan and Frank clash about their differing ideas about the countryside. Frank discovers Nick in the grounds of Home Farm; he's impressed by the way Nick sorted out the problem of the fish and lets him keep his job.

Summary: Alan prepares to interview for an office secretary. Annie reminds Jack that it would have been Kathy and Jackie's second wedding anniversary today. Kathy gets upset as she tells Jack she misses him. Seth watches a stream of young girls going into Alan's cottage and when he brings a young girl into The Woolpack, Seth, Bill and Jock tease her so much she walks out on him. Lynn calls round to Kathy's to say goodbye; she is leaving Beckindale with Pete. Lynn tells Kathy that Pete has been offered promotion in the West Midlands and is relieved to be leaving the village and Rachel. George Starkey, a driver with Tate & Son's tells Chris that he has a parcel for Kathy Merrick. Elsa Feldmann visits Rachel at Emmerdale Farm. Rachel asks about her brother Michael. Kathy is depressed because Lynn is leaving. Nick drags her to The Woolpack and they meet with Rachel, Mark and Elsa. They moan about there being nothing to do. Seth tries to move the youngsters off the dominoes table. Nick says if they have to move they will go and drink somewhere else, but Amos is too worried about losing Wilf Henshaw - a champion dominoes player from The Malt Shovel - so Nick, Elsa, Kathy, Mark and Rachel leave. Kathy lends Nick the keys to her car to drive them all to The Black Bull in Hotten to see a band as she stays behind. Sarah is left looking after Robert when Jack is late home. George hands Kathy a package telling her that it is from Jackie and that he has got a message from him.
Episode 13: 13th Feb 1990

Summary: George tells Kathy that he stopped off at a cafe while on a run down to Southampton; it was called The Halfway House and Kathy recognises the name as somewhere she once went with Jackie. The package contains a sweater of Jackie's which he left behind at the cafe; he tells her that a psychic woman named Mary Smith has been in touch with Jackie. Kathy is quite comforted by her message. Nick, Rachel, Mark and Elsa arrive at The Black Bull in Hotten; they meet Elsa's brother, Michael. Seth and Wilf win the dominoes match at The Woolpack. Amos worries about the loss of trade. Mark is told to leave the The Black Bull because he is underage. A gang of youths follow them out, but Michael comes to their rescue. Kathy phones Mary Smith, convinced that the woman is telling the truth. The following morning, Annie is worried as Emmerdale Farm have been fined by the NRA for the slurry incident and notice has appeared in the Hotten Courier. Nick asks to meet Elsa for a drink. Kathy asks George to take her to Southampton on his next run. Nick threatens to boycott The Woolpack if Amos does not cater for the younger generation. Jack tries to stop Kathy going to meet Mary. Elsa attends her interview with Alan but she is put off when he asks her rather personal questions and touches her knee. Sarah is furious when she has to postpone a night out because Jack is late home. Chris finds out about Kathy wanting to go to Southampton and bans George from taking her. Jack accuses Sarah of being selfish and tells her to grow up.

Summary: Nick teases Kathy about going to Southampton. Jack is upset to receive a letter telling him that Emmerdale Farm are to be fined £1200 for the slurry pollution. Sarah makes things worse by telling him that her boss is coming round for a meal and she wants him out of the way. Chris warns George Starkey again about not taking Kathy to Southampton. Amos and Henry start to clear out all the junk in the old tap room - Seth wants the room for him and his cronies, while Nick wants it for the younger people. Elsa tells Nick she thinks Alan is a dirty old man. Nick laughs and tells her to reconsider the job offer. Annie tries to persuade Kathy not to go to Southampton, but she has made up her mind. Alan agrees to give Elsa another interview and Nick tries to build up her confidence. Frank and Kim argue about investment in the stables. Elsa goes to see Alan again and tries a bit of flattery. Sarah's boss arrives for dinner. Frank tells Alan that he has to move his horse from the Tates' stables; he also enquires about the Feldmanns. Jack interrupts Sarah's cosy evening when he rushes in to call the vet and drags Philip off to help deliver a calf. Amos lets the youngsters have the tap room to themselves. Sarah tells Jack that she has had enough and that she is leaving in the morning. Chris sees George driving his lorry with Kathy seated beside him.

Summary: Sarah is still determined to leave Emmerdale Farm. She rows with Jack. The teenagers help Amos to clean out the tap room. Annie is full of cold and Sarah pours her problems out to her, saying she is fed up of being a part-time mother and housewife. Rachel asks Sarah if she can give her some driving lessons. George takes Kathy to Southampton and she meets Mary Smith. Mary tells Kathy that she found the jumper and heard Jackie's voice telling her to give it to George and also mentions the word Demdyke. Sarah takes Rachel on a driving lesson where they discuss her relationship with Jack. Mary gets in touch with Jackie for Kathy; he is telling her not to be afraid and to start living again. Sarah packs her things and is about to leave when she walks in on Robert playing near the fireplace and is forced to look after him as Annie has fallen asleep. Kathy tells George that it was worth the trip and kisses George on the cheek not realising Chris is watching. Kim asks Alan to arrange a meeting with the hunt secretary. Chris sacks George for taking Kathy to Southampton. The teenagers cannot believe how old the music that Amos has chosen for the jukebox is. Sarah makes up with Jack.

Summary: Mark complains because Rachel is cooking a vegetarian Sunday dinner. Amos bans music in The Woolpack on a Sunday. Nick doesn't know how to ask Elsa out. Meanwhile, Elsa tells Rachel that she doesn't know why Nick hasn't asked her out yet. Mark, Rachel and Elsa sit down to Sunday lunch at Emmerdale Farm. Kathy argues with Chris when she finds out he sacked George. He tells her he'll think about it if she stops going to see Mary. George goes to see Frank about being sacked. Frank refuses to help, but George threatens him threatening to expose one of his secrets. He reminds Frank that he was present when a doctor visited his first wife and overheard Frank asking the doctor for pills to help her on her way. Frank throws George out. Alan offers Elsa the job as his assistant and she accepts. Jack tries to persuade Kathy to forget about Southampton. Mark goes shooting with his dad. Nick tries to ask Elsa out again, but fails. Rachel is having a driving lesson with Sarah; as she drives carefully past Alan on his horse, a car overtakes and Champion throws Alan off and bolts. Zoe leaves for university. Alan finds his stallion - covering one of Kim's mares. David buys Mark a mountain bike. Alan asks Sarah and Rachel to keep quiet about Champion. Frank tells Chris never to re-employ George.

Summary: Kathy tells Jack that she is going on another visit to Southampton. Kim calls to see Chris and asks if he knows why Frank and George argued so violently. Alan has to wear a sling after his horse bolted. Elsa arrives for her first day and Seth says that he is fit enough to come back to work. Elsa's first task is to buy Alan a packet of biscuits. Chris has a meeting with George and asks him what he said to his father. George tells him that when his mother died, Frank was responsible for putting her to sleep and adds that Kim was in on it as well. Chris is hurt and upset. Kim notices marks on her mare; she realises that a stallion has covered the mare and is furious to think it may be pregnant. Chris refuses to tell Kim what happened between Frank and George. He calls at the farm to see Kathy but Jack informs him that Kathy has gone to Southampton. Alan is invited to Home Farm for a meal and begins to panic. Chris asks Jack about Jackie as he helps with lambing. Sarah moans to Annie again as Jack is busy lambing and unable to look after Robert. Annie tells her that farming is a 24-hour job; she offers to babysit so that Sarah can go out. Seth and Wilf invade the tap room to play dominoes. David arrives at The Woolpack to find Mark drunk and has a go at Amos for serving alcohol to a minor. Jack hands a lamb to Sarah and asks her to look after it but she doesn't know what to do. Nick gets round to asking Elsa out. David takes Mark back to the farm and asks him to come and stay with him. Mark says he will think about it.

Summary: Annie tells Mark off for not finishing his homework and spending too much time at the pub. Henry tells Amos they'll have to get some new records. Jack is busy lambing again; he tells Kathy that Chris has been helping while she has been away. Annie gives Amos a roasting for serving alcohol to minors. Seth wants the tap room for him and his cronies to play dominoes. Amos doesn't know what to do. Kim is planning a meal for Alan and Gordon Wyatt - the Hunt Secretary. She hopes to get some business from the evening and also wants to find out whose stallion got into her field and covered her thoroughbred mares. Alan is nervous about the evening. Seth plans to get the youngsters drunk in The Woolpack so that he can claim the tap room for himself. Amos tells Mark that he will be keeping an eye on what he drinks in future. Mark witnesses Seth spiking all their drinks with vodka. Kathy visits Chris, he makes fun of her trip to Southampton and tells her that she needs to go out and have some fun. She tells him she wouldn't go out with him if he was the last man alive. Mark asks Seth for some more vodka and the youngsters continue to get rowdy and drunk. George Starkey suggests playing strip poker. Alan becomes very uncomfortable as the subject of stallions is brought up at the dinner and Kim questions him on his accident. Jack talks to Kathy about Southampton. She says she expected too much but it's made her realise that she doesn't need to make contact with him in order to start living her life again. Summary: Kim is still angry over Champion and tells Zoe that she will sue if her mares are pregnant. She mentions that she is thinking of joining the local hunt, but does not dare tell Frank as he is opposed to hunting. Zoe calls on Alan to tell him that Kim has agreed to look closely at Champion to see if he is suitable for her mares. Chris asks to meet Kathy later. Alan takes Champion over to Home Farm and tries to bribe Kim by saying that he will propose her for the hunt if she doesn't sue him. Jack show off the new transport for the farm - a Big Bear bike. Chris tells Zoe that he doesn't want to go to Frank and Kim's anniversary dinner but she persuades him. David asks Mark to come and stay with him while Kate and Joe are away again; he refuses. Alan suddenly realises that his VAT returns should have been done and forces Elsa to work late; she misses her date with Nick. Chris has to cancel his meeting with Kathy so he can stay in for Kim and Frank's anniversary. Amos bans Seth and his friends from the tap room when he finds out about the drink spiking incident. Summary: Zoe prepares to go back to Edinburgh University. There is a strained atmosphere at Home Farm. Frank tells Kim that he will not be made to feel like a murderer. Kim says she wants to sort things out with Chris. Alan receives a phone call telling him that Lord Luscomb, the Master of the Hunt has died; he was meant to be hosting the Hunt Ball. He's told to ask Frank instead. Frank refuses to give George a reference. Jack tells Kathy that Joe injected some of the cattle with steroids in the summer. Kathy is shocked. Frank looks around Blackthorn Farm and voices his idea of a show farm for tourists. He reminds Elizabeth and Michael that they are two months overdue with the rent. Kim calls to see Chris but he doesn't want to listen to her. George asks Kim to speak to Frank about him having his job back. Taking pity on him, she agrees to mention it. Kathy is still concerned about the cattle being injected with steroids and asks Jack not to sell the calves. Joe and Kate return from their holiday. Rachel and Mark meet their father after school. Alan is still bothered by the thought of Frank hosting the Hunt Ball. David asks Rachel and Mark to go and live with him in Hotten. Summary: It's early morning and as Amos clears up outside The Woolpack he notices some graffiti on the wall - 'Frank Tate killed his wife'. Chris notices more graffiti at the haulage office. Meanwhile, at Home Farm, Nick is told to clean paint off the lawn, someone has daubed 'Killer Tate and his tart live here'. Jack tries to stop Joe selling the steroid injected calves. Henry tells Frank about the graffiti at The Woolpack. Joe stops Kate going to see David when he tells her about asking the kids to go and live with him. Kim persuades Frank to host the Hunt Ball. George Starkey asks Eric if he has got any work going. Chris rushes in and attacks him. Amos receives a call from someone offering to tell him the whole story about the Tates. Sgt MacArthur calls on Amos to ask about the graffiti. Kim asks Dolly if she could cater for 150 people. Rachel asks Mark why he is so against Joe and Kate having a baby. Sgt MacArthur questions Frank about Jean Tate's death. Alan has a problem about who to take to the Hunt Ball. He asks Elsa, but she quickly covers that she can't dance. Seth suggests Rosemary. Summary: Henry asks Amos if he is really going to publish the details about Frank, mentioning that the Hotten Courier will probably be sued if he does. Amos becomes convinced that Henry is planning to kill him after they discuss the ethics of euthanasia and Henry admits he'd put him out of his misery if he had to. Kate finds out that Joe is planning to sell the calves at market. Michael brings Frank the overdue rent but it is less than Frank expected. Rosemary turns up at the Fish Farm to see Alan. He lets her believe that he lives at Home Farm. Seth makes fun of Alan in front of Rosemary. Chris tells Frank that he is resigning as Managing Director of the haulage firm. He later overhears Seth talking about euthanasia. Michael is not pleased to hear that Chris has paid the Feldmanns rent. Seth makes a fool of Alan in The Woolpack. Joe admits that it was a mistake injecting the herd with steroids, but he still insists that they are going to market. Rachel lets slip to David that Joe and Kate are expecting a baby; he storms into the farmhouse threatening them both.

Summary: Kate and Sarah talk about the steroid problem. Sarah says they will have to compromise. Chris clashes with Frank when he goes to collect his belongings from the office. He takes Kathy off to Skipdale saying he has a surprise for her and takes her shopping for a ballgown for the Hunt Ball. They are seen by George Starkey who is upset because he had his eye on Kathy. David steals a gun from Alan's house. George makes an insulting comment about Kathy leading to Chris chasing after him in his car. Kathy tells him to stop and grow up. Rosemary calls on Alan and asks if he wants to commune with nature on his estate with her. Seth makes it awkward for him to refuse. Kate tells Jack that they will have to risk selling the beef, but in return Joe has to agree to let Emmerdale farm organic land. Alan and Rosemary bump into Kim on Home Farm land; she asks him not to make a habit of walking there. Alan is sheepish. David tells Mark that he is going away after he has tied up a loose end. Frank invites Henry to the Hunt Ball. Elsa asks Nick to come and meet her mum. Chris and Kathy share a cosy drink in The Woolpack. Summary: It's the night of the Hunt Ball, Kim is quite flustered and Dolly is busy organising the ball. Henry explains to Amos how he watched his wife Margaret die of cancer, this makes Amos understand Frank's situation. Henry escorts Annie to the Ball. Nick worries about meeting Elsa's mum. Alan arrives early at Home Farm worrying that Rosemary may arrive and find out that he is not the real owner of Home Farm. Elizabeth gives Nick a hard time over dinner. David turns up at the farm and apologises for upsetting Rachel; he seems obsessed with Kate. As the ball gets underway, the event is interrupted by a loud horn sounding outside. It is George Starkey in a 32-ton lorry with the words 'Who killed Jean Tate' plastered on the side. He proceeds to cause a scene in front of everyone. Frank makes an emotional speech in front of the guests telling them the truth about his wife. They all listen in silence, then Chris hugs Frank.

Summary: Sarah and Jack discuss steroids; she has read a lot about them. Zoe arrives home, not knowing about the Hunt Ball incident. Seth worries when he discovers a gun missing. Rosemary keeps calling at Home Farm to speak to Alan. Jack decides to go to market with Joe when he sells the calves; he says he will stick by him whatever happens. David tells Seth that he will tell Alan about the missing gun, but doesn't. Elsa tells Alan that he should tell Rosemary the truth. Jack and Joe take the beef herd to market; they are both nervous. Rosemary turns up at Home Farm looking for Alan and finds out that he doesn't live there. The Sugdens calves are auctioned at Hotten Market. They are relieved when they get a good price. Rosemary turns up at Alan's cottage and accuses him of being a lying, cheating lothario and walks out on him. David tells Seth that Alan has got the missing gun. Zoe has got a job at Bennetts Vetenary Practice in Hotten when she graduates. David phones Joe and asks to meet him. Frank and Chris clash over the haulage business. Chris seems to regret resigning. David tells Joe that he is leaving Beckindale for good.

Summary: David is prowling round the farm spying on Joe and Kate with the gun he took. Kim is losing business since the Hunt Ball incident. Frank has a visit from the police. They ask him to accompany them to the station to be questioned about Jean's death. Henry Braithwaite from the Ministry of Agriculture turns up and tells Joe that his beef herd have been impounded and are being examined. They suspect the unauthorised use of steroids. He asks to examine all their stock. Zoe tells Kim that she has been offered a job in Hotten, but she is worried about all the gossip concerning her father. Emmerdale Farm Ltd. meet to discuss the steroid problem. Henry worries that the reputation of the farm may be harmed. Kim is anxiously waiting for news of Frank. Chris tries to trace where the police have taken him. Eventually Frank turns up and states the police are not pursuing the case. Chris decides to come back to work for the haulage firm. Nick is fed up because Elsa is not allowed out. Chris does not turn up for a date with Kathy. Rachel gives Nick advice about Elsa. Kathy calls round to see Chris at work. They get a takeaway and end up spending the night together in the office. Joe and Kate get up for milking in the morning and are confronted by David and his shotgun.

Summary: David points the shotgun at Joe and tells him that he is going to finish it. Kate tries to persuade him to put the gun down. She tells him that he will have to kill them both. Finally he lets Joe have the gun and runs off saying he is sorry. Kate stops Joe from calling the police. He takes the gun back to Alan - broken in two. Frank invites Kathy for dinner. Kate is upset about her ordeal. Rachel wonders what is going on with her mum and Joe. Alan gives Seth and Elsa roasting about the gun going missing. Kate doesn't want Rachel or Mark to find out about their father. Jack offers to go and find him. He tells Alan the full story and he offers to go to Hotten with Jack to find David. They arrive at his flat which seems to have been abandoned, and find notes left for Kate and the children. The note to Kate apologises for everything, she gets upset. Chris is surprised to hear that Kathy has been invited to Home Farm for dinner. Kate worries what to tell her children about their father and decides to tell them that Alan has sacked him and that he had to go away. Rachel blames herself. Kathy goes to dinner at Home Farm, she feels uneasy in the house. Frank finds out that Zoe has been offered a job in Hotten. Chris hints of planning to ask Kathy to marry him.

Summary: Joe thinks that he and Kate should tell Mark and Rachel what really happened with David as the children wonder why their father hasn't been in touch with them. Sarah lets the secret slip to Annie and Henry. Dolly drops Sam off with Liz and asks her opinion about living at Home Farm. Annie is furious when she finds out about David and insists that the police are informed. Mark asks Seth if he knows anything about his father. Kim presses Dolly to move into Home Farm again. Dolly worries that she would be on call 24 hours a day and she doesn't want to upset Sam with a move. Jack tells Joe and Kate that Annie knows about David and that she is going to tell the police. Chris calls to see Kathy at Emmerdale Farm. Bill shows Amos his poll tax demand and tells him that he didn't fill in the proper forms and now he is being fined. Joe and Kate arrive back at the farm after going to see the police. An alert is being put out on David. Jack talks to Joe about their fine for using steroids; he reckons it could be about £10,000. Jack asks Joe to sell 3 Demdyke Row. Henry tells Amos about David. Kathy has a drink with Chris in The Woolpack. His mobile phone keeps ringing and interrupting them. Seth tries to explain the poll tax to Bill. Joe worries about what Kathy will do if he sells 3 Demdyke Row. Elsa overhears Alan talking about the gun incident. Mark calls to see Amos and asks if he has heard anything about his father. Elsa tells Seth what she heard. Dolly apologises to Liz when she is late home. Elsa is telling Nick about David when Rachel walks in and hears the truth from Nick.

Kate goes in search of Mark in order to tell him about his father. Rumours are spreading about David - mainly from Seth. Alan gives Nick a letter from the poll tax that was delivered to Victoria Cottage. Mark overhears Seth and Nick discussing his father. Chris asks Kathy out again. Kathy is disappointed when Joe says he will have to sell 3 Demdyke Row. Kate finally catches up with Mark, but it is too late as he is already upset. Kathy worries about where Nick will move. Frank asks Dolly to give up her afternoon off to help him out. Rachel and Mark talk about their father; Mark cries. The Woolpack is alive with gossip over David. Alan is furious to find out that Elsa has told people about David. Kathy tells Chris that she and Nick are going to be homeless. Frank shows a group of men around the Fish & Game Farm. He talks of plans for a car park and a new road. Mark apologises for upsetting Kate. Seth tells Alan about Frank's plans. Alan has no intention of letting Frank's plans come to fruition.

Summary: It's Joe and Kate's first anniversary. A 'For Sale' sign goes up at 3 Demdyke Row and Eric taunts Kathy. Chris asks Kathy out on a mystery date. Eric receives a visit from a glamorous woman - Debbie Wilson; she has come to ask his advice about setting up an antiques business. Alan worries about Frank's plans for the fish farm. Debbie asks Eric to look over some properties in Hotten with her. Rachel asks Mark not to mention to Joe that the restaurant he has booked for the anniversary meal is the same one they went to with their father on Christmas Eve. Kate thanks Joe for one of the best years of her life. Dolly and Liz have a night in with a bottle of wine and the children. Dolly tells Liz that she loves her work. Eric takes Debbie for a drink in The Woolpack. Jock and Bill are jealous. She asks him about his past and he tells her that he was married, but that his wife went off with someone else. Joe, Kate, Rachel and Mark go to Angelo's for a meal. Joe thanks them for accepting him into their family. Mark seems ill at ease. Chris takes Kathy to a casino. Alan confronts Frank about his plans for the fish farm. Frank informs him that he should be making money out of tourists. He proposes that he should invest some money in the fish farm so Alan can expand. Kathy is amazed when Chris spends £500 in the casino. Mark storms out of the restaurant when Kate stops him drinking. He arrives at the farmhouse and Annie tries to give him some advice. Chris asks Kathy to spend the night with him.

Summary: Nick is surprised to find that Kathy has not been home all night. He sees Chris dropping her off in the morning and teases her, secretly pleased that she is starting to live again. Rachel has a go at Mark for walking out of the restaurant. Frank informs Dolly that she will have to organise a press conference for him. Alan tells Elsa that Frank has big plans for Home Farm. Amos is furious when Henry receives an invitation to Frank's press conference and he doesn't. The Woolpack is invaded by tourists looking for "a sighting". Amos is puzzled. Mark takes out the Big Bear. Jack tells Joe and Kate to give Mark some space. Amos is told by one of the strangers in The Woolpack that they have come to see the ghost and shows him a tourist booklet quoting the sentence "Woolpack Inn, Beckindale, complete with welcoming ghost". Jack goes to find Mark and tells him how Jackie had trouble settling in when he first came to live at the farm, he tries to give Mark advice but he won't listen. Jack and Kate talk about Mark; she says she can't bear to see him so unhappy. Frank won't allow alcohol at the press conference so Dolly suggests alcohol free wine. Amos is confused about the mention of the ghost so Henry decides to ring the publishers of the booklet. He is very amused when he comes off the phone. Annie tells Mark to stop sulking and convinces him to apologise to Joe and Kate. Amos tells the ghost hunters that there was a printing error in the booklet and it should have read "welcoming host". Chris calls round to see Kathy; she seems to have fallen for him and they kiss. Mark apologises to his mum for his behaviour. Chris asks Kathy if she wants to move into his flat in Skipdale but she isn't sure. Henry tells Amos that the ghost story is good for trade.

Summary: Dolly and Kim discuss catering for the press conference. Kim says she is disappointed that Dolly has not sorted out her childminding arrangements properly yet. Henry tells Amos that he is not going to the press conference. Alan tells Seth that Elsa will be keeping an eye on him while he is at Home Farm. Mark is still sulky and Joe tries to talk to him. The villagers speculate about Frank's plans. Jock asks Nick if he fancies doing some beating for a bit of extra cash but asks him to keep it a secret. The Woolpack is packed out with ghost hunters. Nick enquiers on whether Jack and Sarah will be in need of a babysitter for Robert anytime soon. Mark steals a pen in the village shop. Kim interrupts Chris packing some stuff up in the nursery wing of Home Farm. She is looking at it as a potential home for Dolly and Sam, but this gives Chris an idea. Jock and Bill are organising something dodgy. Kim shows Dolly round the nursery wing and asks if she would like to move in. Chris asks Frank if he has got any plans for the old nursery room, then asks if he can move in and Frank is delighted. Zoe catches Bill and Jock on Home Farm land. Dolly talks to Annie about Kim's offer of a home. Frank tells Kim that he has told Chris he can move into the nursery. Kim is furious. Kathy talks to Annie about Chris. Zoe asks Nick about Bill and Jock. Annie tells Kate she hopes that Chris is not leading Kathy on. Chris asks Kathy if she will move into the nursery wing with him; she refuses. The Woolpack continues to do a roaring trade. Nick asks Jack about babysitting again, admitting he wants to be alone with Elsa. Later, he is rude when Kathy brings Chris home and says he is worried about being homeless. Dolly tells Kim that she will move into the nursery, but Kim says that she will have to live in the old servants quarters instead.

Summary: Elsa arrives for her first day in charge at the fish farm. Seth is ready to make it hard for her. Rachel notices Mark's new pen; he tells her that his dad gave him it for Christmas. Jack invites Sarah out for the evening. The Tates prepare for the press conference. Mark steals some chocolate from the shop. Henry wants to buy a microwave for the pub, but Amos objects. Seth leaves Elsa to cope on her own while he goes for a pint. The press conference gets underway at Home Farm. Frank tells everyone that he bought the 650 acres of Home Farm in order to make money and benefit the local community. Jock and Bill ask Mark if he wants to beat for them. Frank continues his speech and explains his plans for the Fish & Game farm; he also tells the press that the Feldmann Farm is to become a museum of rural life and announces plans for a caravan park and golf course. Jack turns up at Home Farm and asks Nick if he and Elsa can babysit tonight. The Woolpack drinkers gossip about Frank's plans. Nick comments the village will have to be renamed 'Tateland'. Seth challenges Amos to spend a night in The Woolpack cellar to prove he is not scared of ghosts. Elsa asks Nick not to rush her into anything. Debbie confides in Eric about her husband, Barry; she says she is a widow and flirts with Eric. Seth shows Bill and Jock a mask he is going to use to scare Amos. Nick kisses Elsa but they are interrupted by Robert. Amos prepares to spend the night in The Woolpack cellar not knowing that Seth is skulking around upstairs. Sarah and Jack arrive home from their meal to find Nick and Elsa asleep and Robert watching television. Seth tries to scare Amos, but he guesses who it is. Meanwhile, Henry makes ghost-like noises upstairs and scares them both.

Summary: Amos and Henry read about Frank's plans in the Hotten Courier. Chris is busy decorating the nursery flat. Frank wants to know if Kathy will be moving in. Mark steals a watch from the shop. Zoe asks Seth why Jock and Bill are asking around for beaters. He tells her that they are probably planning illegal hare coursing and that she should not get involved. Kate cannot master knitting baby clothes. Zoe asks Nick if he will pretend to go beating and then he can tell her where the hare coursing is taking place. Joe nearly runs Kim down on his quad bike while she is out riding; they discover a mutual love of horses. Joe then mentions Frank's plans for Home Farm and they clash. Amos hears a strange noise in the cellar and convinces himself that there really is a ghost in The Woolpack. Michael is horrified to discover Frank's plans for Blackthorn Farm. Kathy still refuses to move in at Home Farm. Jack rows with Frank over his plans for the village and declares he will fight him. Amos is too scared to go down into the cellar. Alan says that although he is the local councillor he cannot voice the local point of view about Frank's development as he has to declare an interest in the scheme. Zoe asks Mark and Rachel if they will help her stop the illegal hare coursing taking place. Michael storms into Home Farm and accuses Frank of deceiving his family. Frank throws him out. Sarah has knitted a jacket for Kate's baby. Kathy and Chris arrive at 3 Demdyke Row to find the place has been burgled.

Jock asks Dolly to look after Judy while he goes to earn some extra money and tells Nick that the 'beating' is on today. Alan calls to see Frank and asks about his plans for the fish farm. Elsa asks Jack to help Michael with a difficult calving. Kathy and Chris bump into Eric and Debbie at the car boot sale. Kathy is touched when she realises that Chris salvaged her wedding photograph from the mess at 3 Demdyke Row. Nick calls Zoe and tells her that the hare coarsing is on, but that he doesn't know where; they make their plans. Jock and Bill are celebrating in The Woolpack. Seth is suspicious. Alan is put out when Joe tells him that he has been invited to exercise Kim's horses. Nick meets Jock and the beaters, while Zoe calls the police. Amos feels the presence of something in The Woolpack cellar again. Jack helps Michael deliver a calf. Chris pressures Kathy to move in with him again. The hare coursing gets underway. Zoe, Rachel and Mark spy on the activities. Amos asks Alan, Henry and Seth to check out The Woolpack cellar; they conclude that Amos' strange sensation is a draught from a loose brick in the wall. Joe and Kim go out for a ride together. Nick tries to stop the hare coursing and is attacked by Jock. Zoe and Rachel intervene and are assaulted by the beaters. Joe and Kim ride past and notice the disturbance, they go to stop the fight but people try to move their horses away. Joe begins hitting people with his whip to get them to stop scaring his horse. The police arrive. Jock verbally assaults Kim and her horse accidentally kicks him. Jock falls to the ground with blood pouring from his head. Bill tells Kim that she's killed Jock.

Summary: Dolly tells Liz that she has decided to move into Home Farm. Liz is upset about Jock's injuries. Frank is furious with Zoe for not telling him about the illegal hare coursing on his estate, especially as it is mentioned in the papers and he fears it will ruin his plans for the estate. Kim is worried about riding again since she hurt Jock. Rachel is suspicious about Mark's new watch but covers for him in front of Kate. She tells him that he has got to stop shoplifting. Kathy tells Joe and Jack that she wants to show her sheep. Jock harasses Mark about being his witness to Kim's attack. Debbie asks Eric to view a property with her, hoping that he'll invest in her business. Jock is interviewed by Sgt MacArthur - he is facing four charges and is annoyed to hear that Kim is not going to be charged. Eric recognises a bed that is on sale in the market - it belonged to Kathy and Jackie Merrick - a wedding present from Phil Pearce. Nick has got a blackeye from Jock's attack. Jock is snubbed when he goes for a drink in The Woolpack; he threatens Nick in front of everyone. Seth puts him in his place. Dolly looks around Home Farm and tells Kim that she has decided to move into the attic rooms. Kathy is pleased to get her bed back. Debbie is impressed by Eric's honesty. Frank grudgingly admits that Nick was brave to tackle the thugs at the hare coursing and gives him some money to buy a drink with. Mark steals a Barbara Cartland novel from a shop in Hotten, but is unknowingly seen by Sarah. Kim apologises to Liz for hurting Jock. Mark babysits for Dolly. Rachel takes the opportunity to look through his schoolbag. She finds the stolen book. Sarah is preoccupied and goes looking for Mark. Dolly and Liz have a drink together and Jock is mad to learn they're celebrating Dolly moving into Home Farm. Kathy admits to Chris that she loves him. Sarah confronts Mark about his stealing but he tells her to mind her own business.

Summary: Sarah covers for Mark. Henry has bought a microwave oven for the pub lunches, but Amos is not impressed. Frank shows Kim round the barn conversion he is having renovated. Eric views a prospective property with Debbie and offers to help her get started. Michael is furious when he hears about Frank's barn conversion. Jock calls at Home Farm and upsets Kim. Frank visits the Game Farm and tells Alan that he wants to double the size of the shoot. Elsa is jealous of Zoe - she thinks that Nick fancies her. Mark is seen shoplifting by the owner of the newsagents, but he manages to run away and feels pleased with himself. Kathy tells Jack that she is planning a surprise for Chris. A police car arrives at Emmerdale Farm and Mark automatically thinks that he is going to be arrested for shoplifting. He is later relieved to find that the police only want to talk to him about the hare coursing. Kim buys Chris a rocking chair as a housewarming present. She decides to sell her bed - thinking that it has brought her bad luck. Eric offers to buy it for Debbie for £300. The Woolpack continues to be alive with discussion of Frank's plans for Beckindale. Kathy decides to move in with Chris at Home Farm. Jack wishes her luck. Debbie tells Eric that she is worried that she may lose the shop if she cannot come up with the money. Amos decides to ask Annie if she will do some home cooking for the pub after he insults their regular pie supplier. Nick asks Elsa if she wants to stay the night, she refuses but hints she will another night. Chris arrives home to find Kathy waiting for him.

Summary: Jack has been birdwatching and noticed a pair of peregrines nesting at Keller Fell. Chris and Kathy spend their first morning together in the nursery flat. Kate feels unwell. Kathy and Dolly are embarrassed when they meet in the Home Farm kitchen over breakfast. Alan tells Seth that the game farm is being expanded. Seth is worried that he may have to start working hard. Kim is still feeling guilty about injuring Jock. Frank tells her to forget him. Henry, being a keen birdwatcher is excited about the peregrine sighting. Amos is preoccupied by the lack of bar food. Dolly is not happy when Kim asks her to do Kathy and Chris's shopping for them. Amos plucks up the courage to ask Annie about cooking for The Woolpack. She agrees to help for a couple of days. Eric gives £1500 to Debbie and tells her that he wants to invest in her business. Annie offers Kathy some advice about Chris. Elsa seems keen to see Nick, but he has to work late for Frank. They agree to make it another night. The atmosphere is strained between Kathy and Dolly. Mark is caught shoplifting from a supermarket in Hotten. He is arrested and taken away by Sgt MacArthur. Annie voices her fears about Kathy and Chris to Dolly. Joe takes a call from the police about Mark, he and Kate rush off to the police station leaving Annie wondering what is going on. Nick and Elsa kiss. She asks him to be careful when they eventually sleep together. Mark gives a statement to the police and receives a lecture from Joe and Kate. Debbie and Eric celebrate her buying a shop. Mark receives a telling off from the Detective Inspector, but discovers he is not going to be charged. During the interview, Kate faints.

Summary: Kate has lost her baby. Joe tells Sgt MacArthur that he thinks Mark is to blame. Jack thinks that losing the baby will be harder for Joe as he has not got any children. Mark is trying to make up to Joe, he knows that Joe blames him for the miscarriage. Alan receives an invitation to the Hotten Civic Dinner. He does not know who to take with him. Kate tells Joe not to blame Mark, but he won't listen. Kathy is upset about Kate's miscarriage. Kim asks Dolly about Jock's family, she says that she wants to do something for them. Rachel has a go at Mark. Dolly visits Kate and tells her that she can sympathise. Jack tries out his protective suit and makes Joe smile. Henry is trying to organise support to get the RSPB to protect Keller Fell where the peregrines are nesting. Annie bosses Kate when she tries to get out of bed. Eric takes bids at the auction and closes the bidding when Debbie reaches her maximum. The other bidders are angry. Elsa asks Rachel's advice about getting time alone with Nick. Rachel says that she could tell her mum that she is staying at Emmerdale Farm for the night. Elsa looks thoughtful. Kim asks Frank to give Jock some work but he says that it is not their problem; she is not convinced however. Eric fends off the angry bidders at the auction. Debbie tells him that he is naughty. Alan asks Elsa if she would like to go to the Hotten Civic Dinner. Rachel tells him to find someone his own age. Annie brings Amos his pies. Summary: Rachel cannot sleep because she is worried about her A-level examinations. Jock looks around Home Farm and gives Zoe the creeps. Seth tells Alan that he will need help if Frank is serious about doubling the number of shooting days, he threatens to leave. Jock barges into Home Farm's kitchen. Kate tries to encourage Rachel to continue studying. Jock sneaks some whisky from the Home Farm drinks cabinet. Elsa plans her night with Nick while Rachel gives her an alibi. Kate is upset when she comes back from her doctors appointment, she tells Kathy that she miscarried because of a womb virus. Alan asks Eric if he can borrow Debbie for the evening for his civic do. Eric refuses and suggests he asks Kim. Elsa tells Nick that her Aunt Jessie is ill and her mum will be going up to Carlisle to visit. Nick's pleased as it means that they can spend the whole night together. Frank and Kim look over his barn conversion site. Michael is hostile towards Frank about the idea. Dolly catches Jock looking through Frank's private plans. She tells him off. Kate tries to tell Mark that he was not to blame for her miscarriage, but he doesn't want to listen. Alan calls at Home Farm and asks if Kim could accompany him to the Hotten Borough Council Civic Dinner. She says she is busy, but nominates Dolly instead. Dolly agrees, but is not very happy about the idea. Frank agrees to babysit for Sam. Joe and Kate tell Rachel that she can have a car if she passes her exams. Summary: Rachel asks Kathy to give her some driving lessons. Mark is jealous because Rachel has been promised a car if she does well in her exams. Michael telephones Emmerdale Farm and asks if Elsa got off to work on time. Annie tells him that Elsa has not slept there and Rachel feels guilty. Elsa and Nick kiss goodbye after their first night together. Dolly tells Zoe about her forthcoming date with Alan. Jock walks in and they both ignore him. Joe is worried about Kate working so soon after her miscarriage. Rachel tells Elsa that Michael knows she did not stay at Emmerdale. Zoe catches Jock stealing some brandy. she argues with him about the hare coarsing and tells him that she hopes he gets sent down. Eric takes Debbie into the country and tells her how happy he is, he asks her to marry him and she accepts. Elsa tells Rachel that she and Nick did not take any precautions when they slept together, both Rachel and Nick reassure her that she cannot be pregnant. Michael and Jock discuss the Tates. Jock resents their money, while Michael resents Frank trying to turn his farm into a museum. Alan tells them that he thinks Frank's plans will affect the village economy significantly. Kate sprays organic growth stimulator on one of the fields. Zoe tells Frank that she caught Jock stealing drink. Alan congratulates Eric on his forthcoming marriage. Eric tells Alan that Debbie cannot come to the Hotten Civic dinner as she has had to go and see an uncle in hospital. Michael tells Nick to think of a better alibi next time. Frank babysits for Sam. Summary: Frank has been for a run. Jock is confident that he is not going to be sent to prison, he tells Bill that he will probably just get a fine. Dolly receives her decree nisi, she tells Kim that she had a good night with Alan. Frank is abrupt with Michael when he finds him taking a short cut across his land. Kathy takes Rachel on a driving lesson. She finds it difficult to concentrate. Jock is furious when he arrives back from the court having received a £1600 fine and is bound over to keep the peace for eighteen months. He storms out of The Woolpack after Amos hints that he was guilty. Rachel parks Kathy's Citroen CV up in Hotten, but leaves the hand break off. The car rolls down the hill into some roadworks. Kathy is furious with Rachel. Frank warns Jock to be on his best behaviour. Elsa feels more at ease with Nick. Kathy and Rachel arrive back at Emmerdale Farm in a taxi. Debbie asks Eric if she can borrow some more money to take her stock out of storage and he writes her a cheque. Dolly bears the brunt of Jock's tongue. Rachel feels terrible about Kathy's car. Chris tells Kathy that her car has been declared a write off. He makes an insensitive remark and she storms off. Alan and Dolly share a bottle of wine in the kitchen at Home Farm. She tells him that she feels strange living in someone else's house. Frank and Kim arrive home early to find the barn conversion on fire. Frank is sure that it has been set on fire deliberately.

Summary: The Sugdens talk about the fire at Home Farm. The police arrive at Blackthorn Farm to talk to Michael. Debbie insists that Eric does not come to her shop until she is ready for him. She thanks him for everything that he has done for her as if she is saying goodbye. She drives off and he looks at an engagement ring that he plans to give her later. Nick worries that Frank is going to find out about his police record. Joe and Jack ask Kathy about the barn fire and gloat. Elizabeth worries that Michael might have had something to do with the barn fire. Eric buys a bottle of champagne for his celebration with Debbie. He tells The Woolpack regulars that he is going to be more honest in future. The police ask Frank if there is anyone who might have a grudge against him. He replies that there are plenty of people - the Feldmanns and Jock MacDonald for example. Frank discovers that Nick has got a record. Eric arrives at Debbie's shop to surprise her, but he receives a surprise when he finds it locked up with no sign of her. Frank confronts Nick about his past. He tells him the whole story, but insists that he is not an arsonist. Kate offers to pay for Kathy's car repairing. Alan asks Frank if he can employ someone else at the Fish & Game Farm. Frank offers to let him have Jock. Eric drowns his sorrows in The Woolpack. Alan tells Seth that he is going to get an assistant - Jock. He's not pleased. Eric confides in Alan that Debbie has ran off with his money. Chris arrives home in a white mini metro - a present for Kathy but she refuses to drive it. Summary: Kathy tells Chris that she would feel embarrassed turning up at Emmerdale Farm in her new car, she gets a lift with him instead. Jock turns up for work at the game farm and gets a hard time from Seth for turning up late. Elsa does not seem able to concentrate on her work and is rather cold towards Nick. Joe and Jack fix the roof at 3 Demdyke Row. Joe is worried that it is not selling. Jack tries to convince him to farm organic lamb. Rachel is busy revising. Kathy talks to Kate about Chris buying her a car. Kate tries to convince her to keep it. Amos tells Sarah that he has been asked to cover the Connelton Show for the Hotten Courier. Joe receives an offer on 3 Demdyke Row, but thinks it is too low - £59,000. Joe goes out for a ride with Kim. He questions her about Frank and what he is planning to do with his land but she tells him to speak to Frank. Jack and Henry discuss organic farming. Kim is annoyed that Joe tried to use her to get information about Frank's plans. Kim tells Dolly to keep Sam under control. Nick tries unsuccessfully to talk to Elsa. He later realises that she's probably upset about his criminal past. Kathy tells Chris that she has decided to accept the car, but he pretends that he has taken it back to the garage. They have a pretend fight. Sarah receives a letter from the council telling her that her mobile library service is being axed. She has been offered an office job in the housing department and has two weeks to make a decision. Jack comforts her and tells her that there will be plenty of work for her to do on the farm. Summary: It is the day of the Connelton Show. Kathy is showing her sheep, Annie is entering the cake competition and Kate is putting Lucy in for the obedience trials. Mark is embarrassed to find out that he has to look after Lucy. Zoe tells Dolly that she has to judge the children's pet competition. Amos wears a check suit and a press badge. Sgt MacArthur turns up at Blackthorn Farm and asks to search the premises. Nick is puzzled by Elsa's cool attitude. Forensic experts find a glove in Michael's truck which matches one found at the scene of the fire. Kate, Joe, Rachel and Mark arrive at the show. Dolly arrives with Sam and Alan. Chris brings Kathy a bottle of champagne to drink at the show. Annie talks to Sarah about her imminent redundancy. She tells her that there will always be plenty of work for her on the farm. Joe panics when he sees a man who looks like David Hughes. Lucy shows Mark up at the obedience trials. Alan asks Dolly if she would like a day out at Knaresborough, she agrees. Sgt MacArthur arrives at the show and arrests Michael on suspicion of starting the fire at Tate's barn.

Summary: Alan tells Nick that Elsa has phoned in sick. Elizabeth brings Michael home from the police station, he has been given bail. Sarah tells Kathy and Jack that she is frightened of being unemployed. Frank is upset because his Fromage Frais keep disappearing out of the fridge. Elizabeth tries to convince Michael to fight his case. Joe has made an appointment to see Frank, he has got an offer to put to him. Sarah tells Amos that the mobile library service has been cut. He is appalled and tells her that something should be done. Alan threatens Jock with the sack for slacking off work. Nick tries to see Elsa, but she hides from him. Elizabeth calls to see her and asks if she has had a row with Nick. Sarah tells Jack that she does not want to get involved in farming, but that she doesn't know what else to do. Sam spills a pint of milk in the kitchen at Home Farm. Sarah tells Jack that she doesn't mind looking after Robert when the village playgroup closes down. Alan complains to Frank about Jock. Sam lets a frog loose in the kitchen, just as Alan, Joe and Nick arrive. Frank tries to belittle Joe when he comes to see him with a business proposal. Alan gives Elsa a bunch of flowers from Nick and she bursts into tears. Joe asks Frank for 75 acres of his land for beef grazing. He explains that he needs the land for the animals he injected with steroids to graze on as he cannot sell them for a couple of years. Frank says he wants 10% of the gross before he will even consider the deal. He later telephones Jack and asks to see him.

Summary: Jack has gone missing and Joe is annoyed. Amos tells Sarah that he has organised a petition against the closure of the mobile library. She hasn't the heart to tell him that she has decided to take the redundancy. The postman arrives at the farm bringing a letter from David Hughes. Joe decides to open it in front of Kate, Mark and Rachel. In the letter, David apologises for everything and says he is living in Germany. Mark asks Joe if he is going to take the letter to the police. Jack goes to see Frank. Frank asks him where he stands on organic farming. Jack informs him that he would have done something before now if Joe wasn't so against it. Frank says that he wants someone to farm organic sheep on 75 acres of his pasture. Jack cannot understand why he is doing it but soon realises it is all down to money. Jack says he will have to talk to his partners at Emmerdale Farm Ltd.. Kathy rants to Annie as she is fed up being left to do the shearing on her own. Joe decides not to tell the police of David's whereabouts. Mark and Rachel are relieved. Alan is concerned that Elsa isn't eating properly. Elizabeth confronts Elsa asking if she's pregnant. Sarah is amazed that Jack has changed his attitude towards Frank. Amos offers Sarah a job at The Woolpack as a cleaner - she is insulted. Elizabeth tells Elsa that she is not angry with her, just disappointed. They comfort each other. Summary: Jock is still taking it easy at the fish and game farm, much to Alan and Seth's disgust. Joe and Kate talk about the forthcoming meeting to discuss organic farming. Joe is annoyed to hear that Kate will not be voting with him. Kim receives a telephone call asking her if the Demdale Hunt can carry on hunting on Home Farm land. She agrees, even though Frank will be against it. Mark and Rachel are both finding it hard to study. Mark is worried about his father. Nick is still bemused as to why Michael hit him. Kathy advises Nick to go and talk to Elsa. Mark and Joe dismantle the waste pipe in the kitchen to look for Kate's engagement ring, but she finds it just as Joe gets covered in water by Mark. Rachel meets Elsa for a drink, she tells her how she is planning a big party after her exams, but Elsa doesn't look interested. Amos tells Sarah about a letter he has written to the Courier expressing his disgust at the closure of the library service, but Sarah takes the wind out of his sales by telling him that she is accepting redundancy. Nick is astounded when Elsa tells him that she is pregnant. Joe, Jack, Kathy and Kate are sheep shearing. Nick comes to Emmerdale Farm and tells Kathy that Elsa is pregnant. He is surprised by her reaction. Frank and Kim offer to babysit for Sam as Dolly is going out with Alan. Nick tells Rachel about Elsa's pregnancy, she is shocked. Emmerdale Farm Partnership meet and discuss the proposed arrangement with Frank Tate. Joe and Jack argue. Joe wants Frank's land for his beef herd, while Jack wants to farm organic sheep on it. Annie is worried about changing the farm to organic, but Jack tries to convince her that it is a traditional idea. Kate decides to vote with Joe. Henry votes with Jack. Matt sends a postal vote in favour of Jack and it is proposed that Emmerdale begin to farm organic sheep. Dolly and Alan agree to be just good friends after their night out.

Summary: Jack is gloating about his win over Joe. Joe is sulking. Kathy is pleased to hear that she will be in charge of the sheep at Emmerdale Farm. They clash and Michael tells him that he didn't cause the fire, but that he is glad it burnt down anyway. Rachel is ecstatic as she has finished her exams. Kim doesn't seem to appreciate that Sam is only seven years old. Rachel tries to give Elsa some advice. Kathy apologises to Nick for the way she spoke to him. She is surprised when he tells her that he is going to marry Elsa. Joe is furious to discover 3 Demdyke Row in a mess when he shows prospective buyers round. Kathy and Chris discuss Nick's problem. Nick tells Rachel that he wants to marry Elsa, she tells him not to rush into anything. Sarah talks to Jack about organic sheep. She seems to know a lot and this surprises him. Joe receives an offer on 3 Demdyke Row for £57,000 from a mystery buyer. Kim entertains Mr Henderson from the Demdale Hunt. He criticises the trout prepared by Dolly and supplied by Alan. The Sugden clan gather in The Woolpack for drinks. Kate organises a party for Rachel in the Village Hall. Mr Henderson tries to discuss the hunt with Frank, but they are interrupted by Sam. Kim flares up at Dolly and she walks out telling Kim that she can send her wages on.

Summary: Frank is busy making sandwiches for his organic friends in Dolly's absence. Chris asks if there is any news on Zoe's finals. Dolly and Sam are staying with Alan. Kim phones Dolly and apologises. Mark and his friends are busy in the farmhouse kitchen trying to get a sound system working for Rachel's party. They are disappointed to hear that Joe and Kate are planning to come to the party. Seth confides in Alan that he thinks Elsa is in trouble and asks Alan to talk to her. Dan and Gary give Mark a hard time over his family attending. Rachel makes it worse by telling them that they can only drink fruit punch - made by Annie. Dolly arrives back at Home Farm with Sam and Kim apologises for her behaviour the previous night. Elsa arrives late at work and Alan asks her if there is anything he can help her with. She tells him that she is pregnant. Kim and Dolly form a new agreement - Dolly gets improved living quarters and promises to keep Sam out of the way. Zoe arrives home after receiving her degree results, but Nick and Kim are too wrapped up in themselves to ask her how she has done. Alan takes Elsa for a drink and asks her if she has made any plans. He tells her that she can always talk to him and offers to go to Mothercare and pick up some brochures for her. A tanned Archie returns to find Tate's barn burnt out. Kate and Joe bring Rachel home - she has had her stomach pumped. Annie is mystified when she says she stuck to the fruit punch all night. Archie tells Nick that he no longer drinks. He reminds Nick that he went to see Elsa last night and came back covered in mud. Elizabeth surveys the damage caused by Nick to her garden. She tells Elsa that Nick is not good enough for her. Archie asks Jack and Joe if they have got any work, but they say they don't need any help. Rachel goes to see Sarah to get away from Annie. She tells her that she doesn't regret getting drunk and that she needed to get the last year out of her system. Sarah comments that it is her last afternoon at work. Archie goes up to Home Farm looking for work. He meets Zoe and starts talking about Frank and tells Zoe that she is being exploited by a bloke like Tate. He asks her for a drink. The Woolpack customers gossip about who has bought 3 Demdyke Row. Nick goes to Blackthorn Farm and is met by Michael who tries to stop him seeing Elsa. Elizabeth intervenes and says that they have to talk. Joe arrives back from seeing his solicitor about 3 Demdyke Row. He has found out the identity of the mystery buyer and is in a terrible mood. He tells Jack that Frank has bought Demdyke and doesn't believe Jack when he tells him that he knew nothing about it. Joe and Sarah argue. Nick finally gets to speak to Elsa. Annie finds out that Joe spiked the fruit punch and threatens to box his ears. Archie spouts off about Frank in The Woolpack, but feels embarrassed when he finds out that Zoe is his daughter. Summary: Frank complains to Zoe that Nick is late again. Rachel is worrying that she might not have passed her exams. She tells Kate that she might not go to university. Kate is not pleased. Annie asks Kathy and Chris to tea at Emmerdale Farm. Chris worries that he is being given the 'once over' by the Sugdens. Elizabeth tries to stop Elsa from going to work. She arranges for her to go and stay with her Aunty Margaret in Knaresborough. Elizabeth goes to see Alan and he agrees to give Elsa time off. Seth realises that Elsa is pregnant. Henry is annoyed to find that Amos is trying to throw out an old shirt that Marian bought him, calling it tatty. Zoe goes to see Seth to ask him to show her around the local countryside, he agrees. Alan won't tell Nick where Elsa is. Zoe and Seth see a vixen caught up in a plastic ring. They decide to help free it. Elsa sets off for Knaresborough. Archie tells Amos and Henry that he is going to see Frank about a job. They tell him to smarten himself up. Rachel and Joe talk about her future. She says she would like to earn some money to travel. Archie goes to see Frank and tells him that they are two similar people and he asks him for a job. Frank says he does not have any openings for him and is amused by Archie. Chris and Kathy arrive at the farmhouse. The atmosphere is a bit strained. Jack tries to encourage Sarah to help out on the farm. Chris makes his peace with the Sugdens and the atmosphere lightens up. Jack and Sarah discuss BSE. Rachel is impressed to hear that Sarah has travelled widely and took a year off after her A-levels. Jack is amused to hear Archie say that he is going to become a blacksmith. Zoe and Seth set a trap for the vixen. Nick confronts Elizabeth and demands to know where Elsa is. Elizabeth refuses to tell him. Joe, Annie, Kate, Rachel and Mark discuss traveling as Rachel ponders the idea. Annie says that she has never been anywhere. Nick tells Kathy that he thinks Elsa has been sent away to have an abortion. She tries to comfort him. Kim looks after Sam and they make a cake for Frank. Amos has got a stiff neck and Jack suggests asking Sarah to help out in the bar. Joe mentions this to Sarah and she is furious. Sarah tells Jack to stop taking her for granted, but decides to take the job anyway. Henry and Amos are relieved and Jack is surprised. Kathy is frantic when Chris does not come home on time. She asks Kim if she has seen him. Kim tells her that he might be helping Zoe catch a fox, she cannot understand why this upsets Kathy so much. Seth and Zoe manage to trap the fox and loosen the plastic ring pull. Kathy becomes hysterical when Chris eventually arrives home from a business trip in Carlisle. Summary: Nick is convinced that Elsa has probably had an abortion. Jock is late for work again and Seth tells him off. Frank tells Nick that he is slacking at Home Farm. He warns him to pull his socks up. Zoe receives some posters in the post that she sent off for, reminding tourists in the village to pick up their litter. Kate asks Joe about holding a surprise party for Annie's 70th birthday. Dolly receives her decree absolute. Rachel sets off for her driving test feeling confident. Dolly takes off her wedding ring. Amos has still got a dodgy neck and is dressed like Noel Coward in a dressing gown and cravat. Nick confronts Michael and he lets slip that Elsa is staying in Knaresborough. Joe and Henry discuss the farm finances and Henry asks Joe if they can economise in any way. Rachel passes her driving test and wants to drive home. Sarah refuses to let her drive saying she is too excited. Sarah then accidentally drives straight into a concrete bollard outside the test centre. Zoe begins distributing her posters and Henry puts one up in The Woolpack. Chris asks Kathy if she would like to work as his receptionist but she turns him down. Seth is suspicious when Jock buys him a drink and seems to have a wad of money. Sarah is worried about Kate's car as the oil is leaking. Joe is furious about the car. Seth realises that Jock has been stealing trout to sell. Henry notices that Amos is starching his shirt collars too stiff and that must be causing his stiff and itchy neck. Mark is jealous that Rachel is getting a car. Dolly asks Frank's advice about investing her divorce settlement. He tells her to invest in property. Joe gives Rachel the bad news - they can no longer afford to buy her a car as the escort is a write off.

Summary: Jack brings Sarah some flowers to wish her luck on her first day at The Woolpack. Amos is worried about leaving Sarah in charge while he and Henry go to Annie's party. Joe is annoyed when the insurance company only offer 350 pounds for the escort. Rachel tells Kate that she has decided to take a year out before going to university, but Kate makes her promise that she will still go in a year. Seth and Bill try and trick Sarah into giving them large measurements of beer, but she is wise to their prank. Nick asks Frank for time off by feigning illness in order to go to Knaresborough. At the same time, Elsa arrives back in Beckindale. Zoe goes to see Alan and asks him to tackle the issue of the lack of rubbish bins in the village. Chris is annoyed when Kathy suggests that he take on Rachel as his receptionist. He tells her to make an appointment if she is interested. Bill and Seth try to set Sarah up again by covering an empty beer glass with clingfilm, however Amos tries to fill the glass and is annoyed when he gets covered in beer. Rachel meets Elsa, she has decided that she wants to speak to Nick and asks Rachel to find him. Chris threatens to tell Frank that Nick is skiving when Archie lets it slip. Zoe and Alan go round the village picking up litter. Archie invites Zoe to go to the Great Yorkshire Show with him. Elsa asks Rachel if she can stay the night at Emmerdale Farm. Rachel is fuming when Joe buys a brand new car - a green Maestro. Dolly offers to help out in the pub while Amos goes to Annie's party. Seth catches Jock stealing trout and sees him being paid for it. Kathy gives Elsa a lecture saying she needs to decide what to do. Seth confronts Jock about stealing fish, but he denies it. Summary: It is Annie's 70th birthday and she receives presents from all the family - chocolates from Rachel and Mark, framed family photograph from Joe and Kate, a jumper from Jack and Sarah and a book from Amos. Joe and Kate are busy planning the surprise party for Annie. Seth complains to Alan that he needs a proper assistant. He asks him to get rid of Jock and Alan promises to speak to Frank. Kathy speaks to Elizabeth about Nick and Elsa, but Elizabeth says that Elsa is having no more to do with Nick. Kathy tries to reason with her, but she won't listen. Elsa and Rachel are talking when Annie walks in and asks what is wrong. Elsa tells her that she is pregnant and Annie is sympathetic, but advises that she talk to the father. She goes to see Nick, but Frank sends her away. Sarah pretends to throw a pint of beer over Seth in The Woolpack. Amos reprimands her, but then laughs. Elsa and Nick finally talk. She tells Nick that she has decided to have an abortion. Henry brings Annie into the backroom of The Woolpack. Amos cannot bear to part with the gift he has bought her - a book of Shakespeare's sonnets. He has decided instead to either give her a pot head or an elephant's foot umbrella stand. Henry persuades him to give Annie the book. Joe, Kate and the children sort things out for the party. Annie is surprised to see Dolly in The Woolpack, but she makes up a good excuse. Alan complains to Frank about Jock. Frank suggests he takes on Archie, but Alan is not keen. Annie arrives back at the farmhouse and is delighted with the party. Chris and Kathy buy Annie a set of two way radios for use on the farm. Amos reads Annie a sonnet. Annie announces that she is giving her car to Mark and Rachel on the condition she takes her to the shops when she wants to go. Henry asks Amos if he will go in the parlour to test out the two way radio. While Amos is in the parlour he collapses and Henry finds him.

Summary: Henry has just got back from the hospital when Sarah arrives. Amos has had a stroke and there is no change in his condition. Henry is blaming himself. Alan tells Nick that he wants to help him and Elsa. Nick is surprised. Archie is fascinated by the walkie talkie that Jack has with him on the farm. He starts to sing a Rolling Stones song which Annie is shocked to hear in the farmhouse. Alan talks to Nick about his failed relationship with Caroline. Nick says that maybe it failed because of outside interference from Alice. Jock upsets Henry in The Woolpack by talking about how Amos may be affected by his stroke. Kathy meets Elsa in the village and asks her to be cruel to be kind and stop seeing Nick. Henry is upset that he never said how he really felt about Amos. He starts to say something to Annie, but Rachel interrupts them. Nick is shocked when Elsa calls at Demdyke. Archie practices how to be a blacksmith with an old horseshoe. Elsa tells Nick that she does not want him to phone or try and see her again. He gets very emotional and pleads with her that he loves her and doesn't want her to get rid of the baby, she is confused. Sarah has received many calls asking after Amos. Zoe is looking forward to her graduation. Elsa finally admits that she wants Nick. Seth goes to the hospital to check on Amos's progress. Zoe, Frank and Chris discover Archie trying to shoe one of Kim's horses with a very bent horseshoe. Frank is amused. Nick and Elsa discuss their future and decide to keep the baby. Rachel fusses over a worried Annie. Archie is enthusiastic about becoming a farrier, much to the amusement of Alan and Sarah. Henry finally visits Amos. He is going to be okay.

Summary: Zoe and Kim set off for Edinburgh to do some pre-graduation shopping. Frank is due to join them the following day, he tells Zoe how proud he is of her. Elsa reassures Nick that she hasn't changed her mind as she surprises him by calling round to 3 Demdyke Row. Alan visits Amos in hospital, he is doing well, but complains about the amount of visitors and get well cards he has received. Alan suggests they should come up with a rota for visitors. Henry is worrying about looking after Amos when he gets out of hospital. Annie offers to come down to The Woolpack to look after him. Sarah tells Henry that there is now a rota for visiting Amos. Nick worries about where he will live with Elsa. He is going to ask Frank if he can rent 3 Demdyke Row. Frank's business friends arrive for a meeting at Home Farm. They are rather boisterous. Seth tells Elsa that if she has a chance to be happy, she should take it. Alan shows Henry his rota for visiting Amos. He notices Jock taking a package into the fishmongers. Elizabeth tells Elsa that Michael has received the date for his hearing, she asks Elsa to speak to him. Nick asks Frank about renting Demdyke and is shocked to hear that Frank would expect about 150 pounds in rent per week. Alan confronts Jock about stealing fish, but he denies it and comes up with an excuse. Henry visits Amos in hospital and tells him that Annie is going to look after him when he comes out. Amos reminisces about a girl called Jean he met when he was ten and tells Henry that it was the first time he was contrary to someone he really rather liked. Summary: Joe is in a good mood as it is completion day on 3 Demdyke Row. It is Rachel's last day of school and she tries to persuade Annie to let her borrow her car. Annie tells her that she has to get good grades in her exams first. Zoe is preparing for her graduation, but there is no sign of Frank. Dolly is busy clearing up at Home Farm after Frank's drunken evening with his friends. Kim phones to see where Frank is and Dolly presumes that he has already set off. She then receives a call from a friend of Frank's, Terry Prince telling her to come and collect Frank from his hotel - he is hungover and realises that he has missed Zoe's graduation. Joe's solicitor phones and tells him that he has got squatters in 3 Demdyke Row and that this will hold up the sale. Dolly covers for Frank by telling Kim that his car has broken down somewhere on the borders. Joe storms round to 3 Demdyke Row and tells Archie to clear out. Henry is pleased to hear that Amos can come home. Zoe graduates, but regrets that her father is not there. Nick tells Elsa that he is staying put in 3 Demdyke Row and that he wants her to marry him. She says yes. Frank is depressed at missing Zoe's graduation, but he is grateful to Dolly. Amos arrives home to a warm welcome from The Woolpack regulars, he becomes very emotional. Henry breaks the news to him that he cannot smoke his pipe. Joe tells Kathy that Nick and Archie are refusing to leave 3 Demdyke Row. Archie changes the locks on the front door. Rachel is pleased to have finished school. Kate tells her that she has got an interview with Chris Tate for the receptionist job. Archie talks to a farrier at Home Farm. He is disillusioned to find out that horse shoes are now bought ready made and that a gas powered furnace is used. Frank tries to explain to Dolly why he started drinking again. Eric remarks that the vet will be taking a close look at them. Amos has Henry running round after him. Frank is feeling guilty about missing Zoe's graduation. He gives her a diamond brooch for a present. Eric teases Joe asking him what he has been feeding his sheep on. Joe reminds him about the incident with Debbie. Elsa tells Nick that Elizabeth wants to see him. Frank warns Joe that he will drop out of buying 3 Demdyke Row if the squatters do not leave. Amos keeps summoning Henry with a bell. Joe becomes more depressed when his lambs only fetch £37 a head at market. Bill depresses everyone in The Woolpack by talking about stroke victims. Rachel arrives for her interview with Chris. He is not impressed by her scruffy appearance and casual dress. Annie brings Amos her two way radios for him to use with Henry. Rachel does not think her interview went very well. Joe offers Nick and Archie £500 each to leave 3 Demdyke Row. Archie is tempted, but Nick stands firm. Amos talks Sarah through changing a barrel using the walkie talkies. Summary: Elsa surprises Nick by announcing that she is moving into 3 Demdyke Row with him. Kathy looks sad as she turns the page of the calendar over to August. She tells Chris that Jackie died a year ago on the 17th. Elsa is determined to face Elizabeth and tell her that she is leaving home, Nick is not so confident. It is Zoe's first day at work at Bennetts Veterinary Practice in Hotten. She brushes off Frank's pep talk. Rachel is bored with haymaking and broods over not hearing about the receptionist job. Zoe takes surgery on her first day. Amos is getting restless and Sarah offers to get him some books from the library. Kim gives Sam a riding lesson and Dolly tells him that they are going to see Matt in Norfolk for a few days. Sarah brings Amos a selection of heavy books back from the library, but he prefers to read a thriller novel that he finds in her handbag. Archie is teased in The Woolpack about his fear of horses. Michael is shocked to hear that Elsa is moving in with Nick. Annie tells the family that she is going to Scotland for a holiday with her cousin Eileen. Kate receives a phone call from an old schoolfriend, Fran who wants to come and stay for a while. Elsa confronts her mum and leaves Blackthorn Farm. Nick asks Frank for some overtime and tells him that Elsa is pregnant. Frank warns him to leave 3 Demdyke Row or he could lose his job. Summary: Annie is busy making a bed for Kate's friend, Fran. Rachel is pleased to hear that she has got the job as receptionist at Frank Tate & Son Haulage Contractor. Elsa tries to organise Nick and Archie at 3 Demdyke Row. Amos tells Henry that he wants to make his will. Pete calls at Emmerdale Farm to see Rachel. He still seems keen on her. They narrowly avoid Kate seeing them chat. Dolly and Sam leave for Norfolk. Frank is surprised when Kim says that she will miss Sam. Pete admits to Rachel that he has missed her and wants to get back with her. She is not convinced, but they kiss and agree to meet later. Nick sees Jock about joining a union and standing up to Frank. Kate is not happy to see Pete. Nick tries to threaten Frank, but it doesn't quite work. Kate confronts Rachel, realising she was with him at the farm earlier and they row. Fran turns up at the farm and distracts Kate from her work, much to Joe's annoyance. Annie does not approve of Fran especially when she asks if she can smoke in the farmhouse. Kathy asks Jack and Joe if she can have two weeks holiday and they agree knowing that Kathy will be away for the anniversary of Jackie's death. Bill offers to sell Amos his coffin as The Woolpack customers discuss will-making. Kate and Fran slowly get drunk and chatter about old times. She forgets to make the supper for everyone. Frank calls to see Elizabeth and asks her to help get Nick and Elsa out of 3 Demdyke Row. He suggests that she offer them a room at Blackthorn Farm, but Elizabeth is not happy with his manner and asks him to leave.

Summary: It is Rachel's first day at work and she misses her bus. Elsa tells Archie to clean up the 3 Demdyke Row. Rachel asks Pete to give her a lift into Skipdale and promises a kiss if she is on time. Henry tells Amos that Beckindale is to get a new curate - a young man from London. He tries to encourage Amos to do his physiotherapy exercises, but he is feeling a bit depressed about being so immobile. Joe is annoyed when Kate neglects her farm work to spend time with Fran. Eric refuses to answer a telephone call from Councillor Charlie Aindow and seems to begin to panic. Elizabeth calls at 3 Demdyke Row and tells Nick and Elsa that she has a proposition to put to them. She asks Nick and Elsa if they want to come and live at Blackthorn Farm, adding that she still does not approve of them wanting to get married. Archie calls to see Zoe and asks her for a drink. She tries to cure his fear of animals by showing him a garter snake, but he runs out of the surgery. Rachel finds the switchboard difficult to operate and ends up losing some calls. Frank thinks of pulling out of buying 3 Demdyke Row. Charlie comes into The Woolpack looking for Eric. Rachel talks to Fran about Pete. Charlie tracks down Eric - it seems that Eric borrowed £2,000 from Charlie for Debbie's business and now wants he wants his money back and soon.

Summary: Joe is not pleased when Kate goes for a day out in Leeds with Fran. Nick tells Frank that that he and Elsa are moving out of 3 Demdyke Row, but that Archie is staying put. Rachel agrees to see Pete for lunch. Frank asks Dolly's advice about getting Archie out of 3 Demdyke Row. Jack tells Joe that he's behaving as though he is jealous of Fran. Kate decides to buy an expensive dress in Leeds. Jack is delighted when Sarah offers to help on the farm. She isn't happy though, when a cow stands on her foot. Zoe is upset when she may have to put down a healthy dog because the owners do not want it. Pete visits Rachel at work. Dolly visits Archie and warns him that he is dealing with two of the most powerful families in Beckindale. Eric panics when Charlie Aindow calls at the market and asks for his £2,000, reminding Eric that he is Chairman of the Markets Committee and could make things difficult for him. Henry tries to encourage Amos to do his exercise, but they argue when Amos says he doesn't want to. Archie worries when he has a near miss with one of Frank's lorries. Pete tells Rachel that he has missed her. Kate shows Joe her new dress, he is not impressed. Eric asks Alan if he can borrow £2,000, but Alan does not have the money. Kim admits to Dolly that she would like to have a baby. Elizabeth tells Nick that he and Elsa have to sleep in separate rooms. Kate is worried when Rachel is late home and is sure that she must be with Pete.

Summary: Rachel has stayed out all night with Pete and Kate is furious. Zoe is pleased that her boss has the flu and she can get out of the surgery for a change to do his calls. Kim broaches the subject of having children with Frank and tells him that he can have his vasectomy reversed. Dolly calls to see Archie and asks if he has decided to move out yet. He is still thinking about it. Kate asks Joe to come out for a meal with her and Fran, but he is not interested. Zoe asks Archie to come out on her calls with her. Rachel arranges another date with Pete. Archie overcomes his fear of animals with Zoe's help. Frank is sharp with Dolly when she mentions 3 Demdyke Row. He tells her that he is no longer interested in the cottage and that he does not appreciate his staff taking such an interest in his business dealings. Kim finds Dolly in tears and she explains about her tongue lashing from Frank. Rachel ignores Pete in the pub and carries on playing darts with Seth, Zoe and Archie. Amos is itching to get back in the bar, but Henry won't let him. Pete is annoyed by Rachel. She walks out of the pub, taking Pete's car keys with her after laying into him about thinking he can just walk back into her life and use her. Kate and Fran are driving through the village after their night out when Kate sees Pete and Rachel outside The Woolpack. She decides to tackle Pete about their relationship and confronts him in The Woolpack. Everybody witnesses her threaten him. Pete storms out and Kate has a few drinks with Fran. Later as she drives home in the rain along Robblesfield Road, she hits a man. Fran gets out of the car and checks that he is okay, but tells Kate to drive off as she is way over the limit. They arrive back at the farmhouse and Fran phones for an ambulance while trying to calm Kate down. The ambulance arrives and tends to the victim - Pete Whiteley.

Summary: Sgt MacArthur drives into the farmyard and looks closely at the car. Kate is having big nightmares. Joe gets up for milking and is confronted by a yard full of police. Sgt MacArthur takes him inside and confronts Kate. He explains that there has been a hit and run accident on Robblesfield Road. He tries to get Kate to confess. Joe is bewildered. Kate asks how the victim is. She is in shock as MacArthur tells her that the victim was Pete Whiteley and he died at 3am. He insists on breathalysing her. The test is positive and Kate is cautioned and taken to the police station. Nick receives a letter from his mum saying that she wants to come and visit. Rachel receives her A-level results - one A and two B's. She is dying to tell Joe and Kate, but does not know where they are. Dolly suspects that Frank may have been drinking again after Kim tells her that he stayed out all night. Rachel finds Frank in Chris' office looking rather rough with a hangover. He asks her to call Dolly. Joe is furious when the police let Fran go without charging her and blames her for the accident. Kate is released on police bail. She has to appear before the magistrates in one weeks time and will probably be charged with death by wreckless driving, though she could face a manslaughter charge. Dolly arrives to collect Frank and tells Rachel about Pete's death. The Woolpack regulars gossip about Pete's death. Bill walks in the pub and Henry gives him a brandy. He is distraught and does not know how he is going to tell Lynn. Everyone wants to know who was responsible. Joe packs Fran's belongings and tells her to get out. Frank thanks Dolly for looking after him, but she tells him that she is not prepared to be treated like a bit of dirt one minute and then bail him out the next, he apologises. Rachel telephones Emmerdale Farm and talks to Joe about Pete's death. She wonders why Joe sounds so upset. Kate breaks down and Joe supports her. Summary: Sarah is still helping out on the farm and enjoying it. Joe tries to encourage Kate to face Rachel. Mark and Rachel discuss what might happen to their mum. The atmosphere is strained over breakfast. Charlie Aindow calls at the market and demands his money from Eric. Jack offers to tell Annie about the accident, Joe is grateful. Kate finds Sarah in tears as she thinks she is useless on the farm. Kate tells her to take things more slowly. Joe asks Mark to support Kate. Annie arrives home and Jack says that there is something she should know. Bill apologises to Amos, but says that he is going to use his coffin for Pete. He offers to look out for another for Amos, but he is making his own arrangements via his cousins firm - Brearly and Winstanley of Bridlington. Bill Middleton and Seth discuss the accident. They still do not know who was responsible and start speculating. In the end, Sarah tells them it was Kate. Annie discusses the accident with Kate. She says she is shocked, but that she will support Kate. A young man comes into The Woolpack and asks for directions to Chapel Lane. Annie gives Rachel the keys to her car and tells her to get on with her life. Sarah is exhausted after working on the farm and at The Woolpack. Henry is planning a surprise for Amos - he has brought his favourite chair into the bar so that he can sit and have some company. Rachel admits to Joe that she is scared of driving, but he encourages her to get behind the wheel. Henry takes Amos through to the bar. Eric gives Charlie his £2,000, having fiddled the market books in order to raise the cash. Amos is delighted to be out in the bar. Annie tells Joe that she can't face any more dramas. The young stranger is introduced to Henry - Tony Charlton, the new curate of Beckindale.

Summary: Mark receives his GCSE results and hides them from Kate. It is the day of Pete's funeral and Annie persuades Kate not to go. She asks Joe to go and represent the family. Kathy and Chris arrive home from their holiday. Mark opens his results and does not look very happy. Tony Charlton asks Amos and Henry to tell him something about Pete as he is conducting the service. All Amos can say is that he was trouble. Jack tells Sarah to take things easy on the farm, but she is insistent that she can cope. Annie persuades Rachel not to go to the funeral, but she watches from a distance. Bill refuses to shake Joe's hand. He tells Kathy that Lynn has gone into labour. Jack asks Annie to speak to Sarah and to try and get her to slow down. Archie asks Bill if he can come and live with him. Bill agrees. Sarah tells Bill that Lynn has given birth to a healthy baby boy. Caroline arrives at Home Farm looking for Nick. Henry tells Tony that he should meet Annie. Kim invites Caroline to dinner and offers her a room at Home Farm. Mark shows Kate his GCSE results - he has got a B for Art, but 3 D's in other subjects. Annie talks to Sarah and tells her that she is working too hard, but Sarah surprises her by saying that she loves working on the farm. Alan bumps into Caroline at Home Farm and asks her out, but she is busy. Kim tells Frank that she really loves him, but one thing would make her even happier - having his child. Alan introduces Dolly to Charlie Aindow and he immediately tries to chat her up in front of Alan. Kim tries to explain why she wants a child and tries to convince Frank that he is not too old. He agrees to think about it.

Summary: Kate is driving the combine harvester when it hits some metal and stops. Chris impresses Caroline and she tells Kathy how lucky she is. Kate thinks that she is a jinx when the combine is damaged. Frank is going to see the doctor about having his vasectomy reversed. Elizabeth calls to see Nick as Elsa has been taken into hospital. Caroline calls round to the fish farm and Alan panics when he thinks that she may be after a share of the profits. She spots Jock hiding a box of fish. Nick is worried about Elsa. She has to rest in hospital. Frank arrives back from the doctor and admits to Kim that he is having second thoughts. Nick talks to his mum about Elsa and the baby. She tells him that she is proud of him. Kate goes to the village and people stare. She starts crying and Henry comforts her and takes her back to Emmerdale Farm. Kim talks to Dolly about having a baby, Dolly thinks that she is referring to Elsa. Kate is taken away by the police to be charged. Caroline wants to arrange something for Nick's 21st birthday. they decide to have it at The Woolpack. Charlie and Eric fight for Dolly's attention in The Woolpack. Kate is being charged with death by wreckless driving, she has to decide whether to plead guilty or not guilty and Joe tells her not to worry about the money. Dolly accepts an evening out with Charlie. Caroline tells Alan about Jock stealing fish. She says that he should get rid of him. Alan immediately sacks him in the middle of the pub.

Summary: Jock swigs from a whisky bottle outside Home Farm. It is Robert Sugden's first day at school. Jack is telling him that Sarah will meet him outside after school when a large tanker travelling at high speed nearly runs them over. Jack is furious. Kate sets off for her remand hearing. Frank tells Kim that she is becoming obsessed with the baby idea and they nearly row. Michael asks Seth if he saw anything suspicious on the night of the barn fire, but he can't help. Alan still thinks he is guilty. Jack and Sarah agree that they should both collect Robert from school. Caroline offers to help at the Fish Farm. Alan panics when she offers to look at the books. Amos tries to pull a pint, but gets upset when his hand will not work properly and he smashes a glass. Jock is still hanging around at Home Farm. He waits until Frank goes out and then storms into the house. He is abusive and threatening to Kim and Dolly. She sends him to work in the stables and asks Dolly not to mention the incident to Frank. Kate is back at the farmhouse after her hearing. Alan tells Caroline that it is great to have her back. Rachel talks to Kate about Pete. She tells her that she did not love Pete, but that she was just playing a game with him and they hug. Michael is convinced that he is going to get sent to prison. Frank asks Dolly if she has thought about buying 3 Demdyke Row as an investment. She says that she would want to rent it to someone in the village and not have it as a holiday cottage. Caroline and Alan enjoy a meal out at The Old Bridge. He reminds her that a year ago, they set the date for their wedding. She seems uneasy to talk about it. Eric tries to warn Dolly not to get involved with Charlie, but she won't listen to him. She goes on her date with Charlie. Alan and Caroline fall out. Frank tells Kim that he is ready to try for a baby.

Dolly calls to see Joe and tells him that she wants to buy 3 Demdyke Row. Henry orders a new till, but wants to keep it secret from Amos. Tony Charlton calls at Emmerdale Farm and Kate is rather short with him. He asks her to help him to deliver some leaflets around the village, she is surprised because she thought that he was going to give her a lecture. Michael is agitated about his forthcoming trial and Jock doesn't help by telling him he can’t help him. Amos walks into the bar and sees the new till; he is furious with Henry. Frank advises Dolly to offer Joe £49,500 for 3 Demdyke Row and then barter. Tony tells Kate that he thinks she should talk to someone about what she is going through. Caroline and Kathy prepare food for Nick's party. They talk about Alan and Caroline says she knows that he is worried she might ask for more money for her house as he got it quite cheap, but she is enjoying watching him squirm. Dolly offers Joe £50,500 for 3 Demdyke Row and tries to force him into accepting, but Annie chips in and tells Joe to leave it on the market rather than cause bad blood between them. Annie receives a phone call saying that Robert has disappeared from school. Jack and Sarah panic. Amos slowly accepts the new till. Jack finds Robert near the farm - he wanted to come home. Dolly and Joe agree on £55,000 for 3 Demdyke Row. Nick turns up at his party and when Kathy unveils the food there have been a few additions - smoked salmon and champagne. Summary: Kathy tells Chris off for arranging the strippergram for Nick. He cannot understand why she is making so much fuss. Nick apologises to Elizabeth, but she tells him that she isn't a prude. Kate goes to the church and offers to deliver leaflets for Tony Charlton; he asks her if she has any fundraising ideas for the church. Amos tries out the new electronic till and is pleased that he can use it with his poorly hand. Joe and Jack are touched when they find an old scythe belonging to Sam Pearson while they are out harvesting. Michael tackles Bill Middleton, but he doesn't seem to want to say anything. Kathy apologises to Nick for Chris's behaviour. Dolly has a drink with Charlie Aindow. Zoe catches Jock attacking one of the horses. She horse whips him, but Kim stops her. Summary: Kathy and Jack are preparing the sheep to move onto Home Farm land. Caroline and Nick are surprised when Kim tells them that she envies Elsa. Kate tries to encourage Joe to help them move the sheep. Chris calls to see Frank and asks if it is true that he is planning to start a family. When Frank confirms this, Chris explodes. Frank tells him to keep his nose out. Alan had promised Caroline lunch, but she ends up working at the fish farm instead. Joe and Jack tell Sarah about stubble burning, they both disapprove. She finds this amusing as for once the two brothers agree on something. Seth finds Caroline and Alan messing about at the fish farm. Frank is worried that the whole village will find out about the baby plans. He tells Kim that he is going out to a boxing supper that evening. Kate meets Tony in The Woolpack, everyone stares at her. Charlie calls to see Dolly and tells her that she should not buy 3 Demdyke Row, he tells her that he has a better idea that will earn her more money. Tony shows Kate a questionnaire that he is planning to distribute around the village. He says he wants to start up a youth club in the old crypt. Tony thanks Kate for helping him, he puts his hand over hers and the whole pub looks at them in silence. Annie later tells Kate that she should stand for the Parish County Council. Joe asks Kate if she is going to go to The Woolpack for the end of harvest celebrations. She says she is worried about bumping into Bill Whiteley. Annie and Joe advise her to go and speak to him. Kathy tells Chris that he should support Frank and Kim over their plans for a baby. Kate goes to see Bill Whiteley and tries to apologise to him, but he is too upset. He says that he hopes she gets sent to prison, but that it will never make up for the loss of his grandson.

Summary: It is Rachel's birthday and she is pleased to get a cheque from Joe and Kate. Kate is behaving strangely. Zoe insists that Kim tell Frank about Jock. Sarah's friend, Gerry, phones and asks Sarah to go to the Algarve. Jack is not pleased. Frank has got drunk again, but hides it from Kim. Alan and Caroline admit that they miss each other. Elizabeth is sharp with Michael, but admits that she is just worried about him. Kate tells Joe that she is upset by what Bill Whiteley said to her, he invites her out for the evening. Zoe puts her foot in it again and tells Frank about Jock and he asks to see Jock. When Jock arrives he overhears a conversation between Frank and Dolly about the night he got drunk when Kim was in Edinburgh. Jock gets the wrong end of the stick as he hears Frank say that Kim mustn't find out and to keep it a secret between him and Dolly. Alan and Caroline share a cosy picnic and he tells her that he wants to marry her and try again. She tells him that she thinks it is just a ploy so that he does not have to give her any compensation. Frank gives Jock his final warning and Jock tells him that he knows what happened between him and Dolly. He tries to blackmail him and Frank sacks him on the spot. Sarah and Jack argue about her going to the Algarve. Dolly and Frank agree to make up a story about what Jock overheard. Amos reads Tony's questionnaire and is not impressed. Jock is blind drunk in The Woolpack. Frank sends Kim a bouquet of flowers. Jack talks to Joe about Sarah. Joe advises that he talks to her. Michael insists that he did not set fire to Frank's barn and drunkenly causes a scene in The Woolpack. Joe and Kate notice smoke coming from Home Farm stables - they are on fire. Joe rushes in to save the horses and finds Jock. Joe tells Frank that he's found his arsonist.

Summary: Frank clears up after the fire in the stables. Kim is worried because her pregnant mare, Copper, is missing. Michael is convinced that he will no longer be charged with burning Frank's barn now as Jock has shown himself to be the arsonist. Jack is sarcastic with Sarah when she offers to help with Robert. It is the day of the Harvest Festival and Amos is determined to go to church. He is appalled when he sees the size of the marrow that Henry is taking to church, it is not up to the 'Brearly standard'. Kim calls at the farmhouse and thanks Joe and Kate for their help. She mentions that one of her horses is still missing and Joe offers to help her search the area. Amos is embarrassed when his small marrow is placed next to Seth's masterpiece in the church. The Harvest Festival service gets underway and unfortunately Alan sits on a couple of juicy plums left in a pew. Kim is relieved when Joe spots Copper in a field near Connelton. She tells Joe that she and Frank are going to try for a baby. Jack and Sarah row in The Woolpack, he is jealous that she might be going on holiday with her friend, Gerry. Joe tells Kate about the Tates baby plans. He tries to persuade Kate into planning a baby when her court case is over. Michael is relieved to hear that Jock has confessed to setting fire to Frank's barn and celebrates in The Woolpack. Sarah tells Jack that she is not going on holiday and that she has realised just how much Jack and Robert mean to her. He tells her that he loves her. Chris arrives home in a drunken state after playing poker. Kathy is furious with him and storms out of their flat.

Summary: Joe and Jack wonder why Kathy is late for milking. Chris wonders where she has stayed all night. It is Jack and Sarah's first anniversary. Caroline tells Chris a few home truths about how to treat Kathy. Frank also has a go at him telling him that he should learn from his mistakes and that if he loses Kathy he is a fool. Alan cannot get to grips with his answerphone or dictaphone. Caroline helps him out. Kathy turns up at Emmerdale Farm and tells Annie the whole story. Annie tells her that if she loves Chris she won't give up without a fight. Michael is relieved that the charges against him have been dropped. Frank calls at Emmerdale Farm and thanks Joe for helping with the fire. He invites Joe and Kate for dinner at Home Farm. Caroline finally manages to pin Alan down and talk to him about her house sale. He made £20,000 on the sale of her house and she wants half that amount. She settles for £50 a month. Charlie presses Dolly about investing her money in his consortium. He is planning to buy some land and build houses on it. Kathy arrives back at Home Farm. Chris apologises and tells Kathy that he respects her so much and they make up. Sarah and Jack have an anniversary meal at The Feathers in Connelton. Sarah tells Jack that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him. Chris ruins his reunion with Kathy by presenting her with an enormous diamond ring and asking her to marry him. She refuses and says that he is just trying to buy back her affection as usual. Jack and Sarah discuss marriage and both decide that it is not what they want. Jack agrees to ask Sarah to marry him every year on the condition that she always says no.

She has sold tickets to everyone in the village. Henry is worried when Amos is late back from his walk. He has nearly been run over by a couple of lorries. Chris surprises Kathy by turning up at the farm on a new motorbike. He whisks her off. Dolly discusses investing her money with Charlie. She is not sure what to do and asks Alan's advice. He tells her to be careful in her dealings with Charlie, both business and pleasure. She admits that she does not trust him. Kathy asks Jack if he thinks Chris will ever grow up and start to consider her. She gets upset. Zoe has trouble with a customer who won't accept her diagnosis on a dog. Dolly tells Charlie that she is going ahead with buying 3 Demdyke Row. Caroline asks her if she would consider renting the cottage out to Nick and Elsa. She offers to pay most of the rent and they agree to keep this a secret from Nick. Seth is trying to undercut Tony in selling tickets for the cow pat competition. Joe and Kate go for dinner at Home Farm. Joe makes a remark about neutering tom cats - a dig at Frank's vasectomy - and Kim looks uncomfortable. Jack tries to convince Kathy to enjoy herself with Chris and not take things so seriously. He decides to have a friendly chat with Chris. Joe and Frank clash about the Heritage Farm. Amos asks Alan and Charlie to do something about the amount of traffic travelling through the village. Charlie ignores him and takes Eric to one side warning that if he finds out that he has spoken to Dolly about not investing in his scheme he will organise an audit at the market. Summary: Joe tells Kathy about Frank and Dolly, but she won't believe that there is anything going on. Jack calls to see Chris and warns him about messing Kathy about. Chris is not happy to be spoken to in that way. Dolly finds an empty vodka bottle in the living room. Frank and Kim row about her telling people about their baby plans. Tony arrives to drive Kate to her solicitors. Frank apologises to Michael for suspecting him of arson, but Michael warns him that he won't give in fighting Frank's plans to turn Blackthorn Farm into a farming museum. Dolly and Caroline measure up at 3 Demdyke Row. Amos writes a letter to the council complaining about traffic running through the village. Henry receives a mystery letter. Charlie turns up at 3 Demdyke Row and asks Dolly who advised her not to do business with him. She tells him that she spoke to Alan. Seth is still selling plots for the cow pat competition, but claiming that he is helping Tony. Jack calls in at The Woolpack and Sarah says she needs his advice about a letter she has received. Nick and Caroline clear all the furniture out of Victoria Cottage as Caroline claims that it all really belongs to her. She tries to encourage Nick to ask Dolly about renting 3 Demdyke Row. Elsa is out of hospital and Alan tells her to look after herself, as he leaves The Woolpack he is left speechless to see Caroline driving away with a van load of furniture. Archie and Eric find the scene amusing. Kate arrives back from her solicitors. Her trial date has been set for the end of October and she is upset that the charge against her has not been reduced. Henry seems preoccupied. Amos tries singing to cheer him up. Eric promises to look out for some furniture for Alan. They both decide that you cannot trust women. Kim is put out when her stablehand resigns. Sarah and Henry realise that they have both received the same letter - it informs them that they are to be witnesses for the prosecution in Kate's trial.

Summary: It is the day of the cow pat competition. Tony and Kate find out that Seth has been selling tickets as well. A reporter turns up in The Woolpack asking questions about Kate. Chris mentions to Kathy that Kim is looking for a stablehand - it would mean leaving Emmerdale Farm and working close to home. Sarah is worried about facing Kate and telling her that she has been called to give evidence against her. Joe questions Dolly about Frank. He is amused when she tells him how nice Frank can be. He still thinks that they are having an affair. Kathy explains to Sarah how tupping works. She tells her about the teaser - a ram which cannot serve a ewe himself, but allows the farmer to see which ewes are in heat. Dolly asks Nick if he would like to rent 3 Demdyke Row with Elsa. The cow finally performs - Kate wins and feels embarrassed. As her name is announced, a photographer takes her picture. The reporter interviews Kate after the competition. He starts by asking innocent questions, but then asks her about Rachel having an affair with a married man and his death. Henry has to rescue her from his questioning. Seth asks Amos to count the money he has raised. Henry tells Kate that he has been asked to appear as a witness for the prosecution in the case against her. She realises that the prosecution want to talk about her behaviour in The Woolpack. Tony thanks everyone for helping with his first fundraising event. He forces Seth into handing over the money that he raised. Sarah finally tells Kate and Joe that she has to appear in court as well. Kathy has decided to talk to Kim about the stablehand job. Elsa is reluctant to move into 3 Demdyke Row. Charlie helps Dolly make an inventory at 3 Demdyke Row and they sleep together.

Summary: Kate is paranoid that an article is going to appear about her in the newspaper. Rachel receives a strange phone call at work. Kathy asks Kim about the job as stablehand and tells her that she might be interested. Charlie asks to meet Dolly at 3 Demdyke Row again. Kathy tells Kim that she just feels like a hired hand at Emmerdale Farm, she says she is fed up being a farm labourer and wants a future for herself. Kim tells her that she is worried what may happen if Kathy splits up with Chris, but Kathy assures her that she wants the job for herself - to put the past behind her. Chris finds Rachel ignoring the telephone at work. She tells him that a reporter has been plaguing her all morning and he gives her the afternoon off. Nick talks to Elizabeth about moving into 3 Demdyke Row. She doesn't approve of him living with Elsa, but surprises him by saying that she thinks he would make a very good husband and tells him to ask Elsa to marry him as quickly as possible. Amos has been clearing out the kitchen. Mrs Graves bursts into the vets surgery and tells Zoe that her dog, Clement, is dying. Kate is put through her paces by her barrister. She is made to feel as if she might have a chance in court. Kim tells Dolly that she is pleased to see her happy and tells her that she can bring Charlie back to Home Farm. Martin Bennett tells Zoe that Sally is a sick woman who is always visiting vets and claiming that her animal is dying. Rachel tells Annie that the journalist wanted to know about Pete Whiteley. Kim has offered Kathy the job as stablehand, but she is worried about telling everyone at Emmerdale Farm that she is leaving. Amos is still having a good clear out. Kate gets upset when she tells Joe about her barrister giving her a taste of how she will be treated in court. She tells him that she cannot face it.

Summary: Kathy is still worried how to tell Jack and Annie that she is leaving Emmerdale Farm. Chris advises her to write a letter. Nick tries to make Elsa change her mind about moving into 3 Demdyke Row, but she is still not sure that they can afford it. A journalist and photographer are watching Kate at Emmerdale. Alan is proud to receive an invite to the Demdale Gamekeepers Association dinner and dance. Elsa teases him about who he will take this time. Jack asks Joe what he is planning for Kate's birthday. Kathy suggests buying her some expensive perfume. Joe notices a strange car hanging around the farm. Alan is horrified when Seth suggests making up a foursome for the Gamekeepers Dinner. Chris asks Rachel to collect a shirt for him from Home Farm. Fran phones up to speak to Kate. As Rachel collects Chris's shirt, she sees Kathy's letter of resignation on the bed. Joe clashes with the journalist outside Emmerdale. Seth and Bill test Amos's knowledge of past winners of the local horticultural show. He has been memorising them from his old record book. Tony tells Kate that the final total raised from the cow pat competition was £656.50. He asks Kate if she will help him organise a local concert. She is worried about the reporters following her, but he persuades her. Seth tests Amos on past village cricket scores. He makes an excuse to leave the bar and goes and looks up the scores in his old diaries which he found while having a clear out. Seth and Bill are impressed with his memory. Tony and Kate ask to put up a poster in The Woolpack advertising for volunteers to take part in the concert. Seth and Amos argue about the year of the last village concert. The article has photographs of Kate, Rachel, Lynn and Pete. Seth tells Alan that he needs an escort for the Gamekeepers dinner. He is not taking Meg because last time he took her dancing she dislocated his ankle in the jitterbug competition of 1953 - she was 8 months pregnant with Jimmy Armstrong. Summary: It is the first day of Kate's trial and she admits to Joe that she is terrified. Henry and Sarah are both preparing themselves for their ordeal in the witness box. Joe, Rachel and Mark leave Kate at the courthouse. They bump into Lynn Whiteley. The trial begins and Kate is charged with causing death by reckless driving, but she pleads not guilty. The prosecutor tries to show that she knew she was too drunk to drive. Henry takes his turn in the witness box and is forced to admit that Kate slapped Pete Whiteley in The Woolpack on the night of his death, but he also tries to show that she is a caring woman. Kathy is looking after Peter Whiteley on her first day working for Kim. Archie is preparing to take Seth's photograph for his dating agency application, but he makes Seth go home and change into a suit when he turns up in his gamekeepers outfit. Sarah is nervous in the witness box. She has to tell the court how she promised Kate that she would not mention the incident with Pete Whiteley back at Emmerdale Farm and that Kate thanked her. This seems to sway the jury. Seth turns up in his suit to have his photograph taken. The defence counsel tries to show that Kate behaved out of character on the evening of 16th August. Tony vouches for her and speaks of her work for the church. Annie is worrying back at the farmhouse. She thinks that Kate may not be coming home at all. Fran gives her evidence. The prosecution cross examines Fran. Kate takes to the stand. The defence establishes that she has previously had a clean driving licence for twenty years. The prosecution then tears into her. She breaks down in the witness box as they say she left Pete to die in the gutter. Kim is enjoying looking after Lynn's baby. The prosecution and defence sum up and the jury return their verdict - guilty. The judge sentences her to two years imprisonment and court costs of £800. Summary: Kathy worries about continuing her new job now Emmerdale Farm are a person down without Kate. Annie tries to keep Mark and Rachel busy as they mope around the farmhouse. Kate's solicitor advises Joe against appealing the verdict, informing him her sentence could be lengthened if they fail. Joe tries to encourage Mark and Rachel to be strong and positive, saying Kate could be out in a year with remission. Kathy mentions to Kim that she's thinking of returning to help at Emmerdale Farm but Kim tells her she'd rather she didn't. Lynn drops by and asks Kathy if she wants to go for a drink before she leaves for Birmingham. Kim jumps at the chance of looking after Peter while they go for a drink in Kathy's lunch hour. Alan has a near miss with a lorry which speeds past him as he turns into Main Street. Seth witnesses the incident. Rachel is growing tired of the haulage drivers harassing her over the newspaper article. Chris offers to have a word with one particular driver, Badger, who seems to be harassing her more than the others. She insists she can handle it. She accidentally drops Joe's letter as she gets out of her car and Badger swoops down and picks it up before pocketing it. Amos complains wearily to Henry about the repetitiveness of his life. He puts out the poppies for Remembrance Sunday on the bar. Archie has offered to sell white "peace" poppies for Tony. Jack offers Mark a bit of extra money if he'll do some odd jobs down at The Mill but he is unsure. Rachel warns David that he needs to move on as it's too dangerous remaining in the village. He is adamant he wants to find a way to see Kate before he goes. She calls him stupid. Mark is shocked to walk in on them. Dolly tells Kathy that Sandie has tried selling The Mill with no luck so is now looking to let it. Rachel is angry with David for putting her in a position where she has to lie to everyone. Seth tries his luck talking to a bunch of women business executives on a management training course and camping in a field at Home Farm for a couple of days. He doesn't get far. Summary: The women at Home Farm set off on their cross country management training. Mark notes to Rachel that Joe is trying too hard to make up for Kate. She asks him not to say anything. Two of the women on the training course, Sue and Gill, become lost while carrying out an exercise in the fields. Sue manages to track down Seth after Gill sprains her ankle and asks Seth to help. Seth refuses but has his mind changed when Sue offers him a shot of whiskey. David has a narrow escape when Dolly and Charlie arrive at The Mill. He hides in the kitchen as they go upstairs and then slips out the door. Seth helps Sue and Gill complete the rest of the track exercise by escorting them in his car. Dolly and Charlie leave The Mill after sleeping together on her lunch break, he suggests they meet again for an hour or two at the weekend but she is unsure. Summary: Annie is suspicious of Rachel's behaviour. Archie lays a wreath of white poppies on the war memorial. Dolly tells Charlie she won't be seeing him this weekend as she's taking Sam out for the day to Kelthwaite Cragg. Amos is angry when he arrives at the war memorial to pay his respects and notices a white wreath has already been laid. He throws it over a wall. Rachel brings food around to The Mill for David. He apologises to her for yesterday but the pair are soon snapping at each other again. Zoe informs Archie the white wreath has been removed and Archie realises Amos is responsible. Dolly receives a shock when Charlie appears at Kelthwaite Cragg and tries to whisk Dolly away for a cup of coffee. Dolly insists that she's climbing the cragg with Sam and that if Charlie wants to spend time with her, he'll have to follow them. The Remembrance Service gets underway in the village. Jack is annoyed to discover the vet can't call out until later. He informs Sarah of David's return to Beckindale and Joe's new troubles. Charlie calls again for Dolly and she asks Kim to make an excuse for her. Amos admits to Henry that the more he thinks about retirement the more he's sure it's what he wants. The shoot gets underway at Home Farm. Frank is impressed by Alan's arrangements. Joe expresses his gratitude to Jack for managing the farm over the last few months. Jack talks him into giving Archie a trial. Frank and Alan have trouble with a shooter, Peter Simpson, who shoots too low and hits a rabbit despite them stating not to. Frank worries as Peter is the son of one of Tates' major customers. Charlie finally gets hold of Dolly at Home Farm and apologises. She agrees to meet him in The Woolpack later that night. Nick is amazed at the amount of money he and Elsa are expected to spend on baby items and begins to worry that they won't be able to afford it. Kim tells Kathy she wants her at the hunt as her colleague, decked out in full hunting gear. Michael arrives back from the bank in a bad mood. Elizabeth and Michael only make £520 on their sucklings. Eric makes a comment suggesting the Feldmanns must be struggling to sell at the wrong time of the year. They do their best to dismiss his suggestion. Nick and Elsa sit down and work out their income to assess what they can realistically afford for the baby. Elizabeth goes to see Frank and explains that Blackthorn Farm is now broke. She asks if Frank still has plans for the farm museum as she might now be interested. He tells her that circumstances have now changed and he is no longer pursuing that idea. Summary: It's Boxing Day in Beckindale and Joe clears his and Kate's things out of the attic bedroom for Rachel. She plans to ask Michael to help her move her stuff in. Kim is keen to impress the master as the members of the hunt gather at Home Farm. Kathy asks Kim if Frank picked up on her sneaking over to the nursery flat on Christmas Day to have an alcoholic drink. She doesn't think he did. Amos is disgruntled that the hunt are setting off from Home Farm this year rather than The Woolpack. As a result, the pub is empty. Chris discovers Alan has bought himself a Christmas - a whiskey flask identical to the one Seth has. Frank is furious when he comes across the stirrup cup for the hunt. He goes mad and humiliates Kim in front of everyone and tips all the alcohol away. Kim and Frank continue their argument in private and he confronts her over sneaking away over Christmas to have a drink and accusing her of breaking their pact. Rachel hints to Michael that she's interested in him and offers to show him her bedroom. He doesn't seem to take the hint. The hunt gets underway. Joe tries to reassure Kim that the hunt will see the funny side of Frank's actions. Rachel is disappointed when Zoe and Archie join her and Michael in helping to move the stuff into her new room.
