Summary: The Winds of War is a 1983 miniseries that follows the book of the same name by Herman Wouk. Just as in the book, in addition to the lives of the Henry and Jastrow families, much time in the miniseries is devoted to the major global events of this period. Adolf Hitler and the German military staff with the fictitious general von Roon as a major character is a prominent subplot of the miniseries. Winds of War also includes segments of documentary footage narrated by William Woodson to explain major events and important characters. According to the DVD-featurette "From Novel to Television," The Winds of War became a smashing television success, and a US national television event as never seen before. It was followed by a sequel War and Remembrance in 1988, also directed by Dan Curtis.

Summary: The beginning of the tale of the Henry clan as they see the start of WWII from different areas. Victor and Rhoda are on their way to Pug's diplomatic posting to Berlin, while Byron ends up in Sienna, Italy.

Summary: As WWII begins, Byron Henry and Natalie Jastrow are stuck behind enemy lines, and an insightful memo brings Pug Henry to the attention of FDR

Summary: With the invasion of Poland complete, the beginning of WWII as seen from the eyes of the Henry clan.

Summary: Henry finally gets orders to his Battleship command, while Rhoda and Palmer get closer; Natalie and Aaron are increasingly being hemmed in by the authorities in Italy, while Natalie desperately seeks a way out.

Summary: Pug undertakes travel around the world to take command of his battleship at Pearl Harbor, where he is due on Dec 10th, 1941; Byron is increasingly worried about Natalie's situation.
